On the other board someone posted that Serena

entered IW to stop The Pova from being the only

player to 3 peat at IW.

Maybe Maria calling Serena out was not such a good idea...lol

I doubt it. Maria is not a rival to Serena for Serena to care about she
doing anything.

I find it ridiculous that posters say whatever they want without clarifying whether it is their wish, their prediction, or fact. The ignoring of polite requests for further information should result in deletion of said posts.

No it shouldn't.

Free country and all of that.

If someone posts something like this and I am

really interested I might ask them to put a link up

If they say they don't want to then I know how to

find out if its an official announcement or not. But this

issue does not warrent that kind of censorship on

the board. It was not offensive, no cursing or insults

Why would it be deleted. Cause she made someone mad

by not wanting to answer their inquiry? Let it go and

move on.

I think the poster needs to say whether it is his/her wish, opinion, prediction in
contrast to it being a fact. If it is a fact, the poster can easily provide a link or mention
the source of the information.

In case, the information is from inside sources about whom the poster does not
want to reveal any further, the poster can say so. i.e., the poster can say something
to the effect ``I have some inside sources from whom I found out the following
information. If you want you believe it , If you don't want you don't believe it;
But, I am not willing to reveal further information about my sources''.

If it is an opinion, everybody is free to have their opinion. There is nothing
wrong with it. It is just that people need to be told that it is an opinion.

Typical of that "other board" :D They all think there that the players are some mean bitches who are busy all day in plotting and being nasty. No connection with the real life tennis on that board.
Serena kicked Maria's backside so many times in last years, why would she care about another beating? :D

This got me thinking. What if the poster does not want the source to know that he leaked his info on the net?
The poster has a hot potato on his hand and a problem to release it...
Maybe that's the case.

I have already explained how to deal with this situation in second para of my previous
post. The poster does not have to reveal the sources or say anything further. The poster
can simply say I have inside info to the effect that so and so will happen.

If one is worried about the leaking of the info itself, I don't understand why
would one want to post it in the first place.

Because it was too tempting not to gossip about it? :) I am not defending the poster, just suggesting.

Much ado about nothing.

I have known Special for a long time from the ESPN board

I am defending Special. Special is a great poster, an avid

tennis fan, and a standup poster. There is no big conspiracy.

After the post Special felt attacked and she will not be bullied,

threatened, or pushed. Just look at the statement and the

context and form your own opinion and move on. There have

been many such statements before without all this scrutiny.

It will all come out in a few weeks anyway.

Serena will decide, when Serena decides.

By BEN ROTHENBERGJAN. 22, 2014

MELBOURNE, Australia — Thanks in part to a movie about Nelson Mandela, Serena Williams has moved toward ending her more than decade-long absence from a high-profile tour event in Indian Wells, Calif.

The Williams sisters have not entered the tournament since, and Venus is still not entered into this year’s event, the BNP Paribas Open. Serena, however, has put her name on the entry list.

Her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, said that Williams had listed her name to leave open the possibility of playing, which was still not guaranteed.

“It’s an option,” Mouratoglou said. “It can be yes, it can be no.”

After her third-round win over Daniela Hantuchova at the Australian Open last Friday, Williams said that watching the film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” had made her think about forgiveness, and about playing the tournament.

“It crossed my mind,” Williams said.

Sharapova was hoping to win Paris so that it would balance out the fact that she's not playing Doha and defending her SF points from last year since she's going to be working the Winter Olympics

So she'll fall further behind Aga in the rankings for #4, depending on Aga's results, but stay comfortably at #5. But it will put more pressure on her to defend her 1700 points at IW and Miami. She could drop out of the top 5 if she doesn't do well at those 2 tournaments.

This really pisses me off -- How dear you tell anyone how and what he/she should post and the moderators want to tell people how he/she should word his/her post. Why should I have to state whether it's my opinion or a prediction. This is unbelievable. As long as the posters are respectful and not cussing out each other my "opinion or "prediction" or how I post should not come into play. Do not try to censor my freedom of speech, again we are not in China and how I chooses to word my post is my business. I've never requested additional information from anyone on this board. If you post something and I reply with a question and you choose not to answer then that's fine with me I am not going to threaten you because I can't get what I want this is a public message board as long as we respect each other that is all that's needed.

And it's going to be so much pressure on her to defend those points that's she's going to get very nervous and may lose early in both those tournaments.

Sure, you can post anything you want without differentiating between your opinion
and a fact. The only thing is that you will not be taken seriously by other members
if you do so.

But, I do agree with you that as long as you are not being disrespectful of others and
not indulging in personal attacks, your post should not be censored. But, I believe it
would be completely pointless to post such messages. Doing so, will only get you
into the ignore list of more and more people.

By the way, I am not a moderator of this forum. I am just another poster like you.

Also, I don't have anything personal against you. In fact, I liked your thread
titled "cannot believe this" and indicated so.

If you are even mildly reasonable, you would understand that you are
overreacting.

In that sense, you are good to go. But you would do well to read carefully GSM's post, which is very thoughtful, and describes well how we debate on these forums. If you think nothing of being obligated to back up your opinion, then your opinion, however much you have the right to it, will not be taken seriously. You should consider the difference between your rights to be here, and your obligations to good discourse.
