Well done to Safiullin who continues to impress, he has been 'inform' of late and knocks out Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets 63 64!
Watching Safiullin of late he has the talent to be a Top ten player.

I didn’t see them play yet, but read that Carlos had a very high UFE count for the match. How did he seem physically MM?

Hmm my honest opinion he should have skipped Paris, he hasnt done a lot of training and it showed, due to his foot injury, look I also think a lot of the players at this time of year, are carrying niggling injuries, Paris always brings up surprises.

As they noted on TC, Safullin went through qualifying, and won his first round match in the main draw. He looked sharp as a tack. Carlos not so much. He hasn't really been on top form since Wimbledon, if you ask me. Injuries are one thing, but he also has a lot of pressure at his young age. He needs to get fully fit, and clear his head a bit, too, IMO.

I was very surprised that he chose to play here too. Probably due to the race for YE #1.

Probably, though in ways this is a good lesson learnt, the health of your body is far more important, than going into a Masters 1000 tournament still carrying a niggling injury, he is young and has plenty of time to win the YE #1 :)

Strong temptation, but I also suspect that he wants to play tennis and not sit things out. Youngsters don't take well to being bridled. He wants to get his mojo working again, and probably feels that can only happen on the court. In a sense, he's right, but playing when he's not ready isn't the answer.

No way someone could have EVER convinced me at age 20 to get rest while playing tennis, football and basketball...Can't see someone convincing Carlitos that he isn't invincible at his young age.

It's either the "new Normal" or "Normal; sans Big 3!" Back in the day, there was limited winning! Even the elites succumbed to upsets, but Fedalovic somehow "broke the mold" & elevated themselves above norms to share about 90% available BIG TITLES! I just can't see this crop of snowflakes being able to overcome physical breakdowns due to the game moving so fast! Novak's not even close to being done! It's like people forget he won 3 of 4 majors for the 4th time ('11,'15,'21,'23)! I'm sure most thought Fed's 3 ('04, '06, '07) would hold as a rec.! Novak will inevitably own them all for decades to come! I was ready to pass the torch to Alcaraz, but he has the same limitations of all the others his age! :face-with-head-bandage: :astonished-face: :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :fearful-face:

I think a lot of people are 'forgetting' Charly is just 20 years of age, he has a great game and yes we all thought at 20 years of age we were 'invincible', he has come on the big stage and impressed and has risen to great heights in our game in short time, but let us remember he is 'human and will get beaten', name me another 20 year old presently that has the talent and game he has? I have to laugh that are lot of people are righting him off, let us remember how he won Wimbledon? to me, he is such a quick learner, and he showed that winning Wimbledon this year.He has a great coach in JCF and his dad who owns a tennis academy, I feel at his age he is mature and well grounded, though at the end of the day he is still young and learning.

It's like you want to say that Novak is hovering up titles in a "weak era." Isn't that what you're saying? He's won half of his Majors post 30. What does that say? And it's very likely he'll win this year again in Paris, and the YEC, and the YE#1. Because he's so great, or because there is really so little competition? Clearly, he's still a very great player, but what does this say about the competition?

Some have compared carlos to federer but to me is very similar to nadal. Take rafa right handed and you get carlos.

Carlos can win on any surface but his game isn’t as strong indoors where opponents have a tendency to hit a cleaner ball and ball bounces lower. He looks vulnerable on indoors whereas on clay, grass or outdoor courts, seems in control and dominates.

Nadal always struggled on indoors, was a different player. Novak and roger went to tears during indoor season and won eoy cup 6 times a piece. Rafa? 0

Like rafa, carlos’s serve is a point starter, he rarely gets free points. Like rafa, he hits heavy and dominates with his forehand but isn’t a particularly a great counterouncher, he prefers time to set up and unwind. He is uncomfortable when rushed.. djokovic on other hand can defuse power and re-direct it better.

He is much more like rafa than roger…

And he speaks Spanish and is from Spain!

Why the need for comparisons? He’s got his own game and it’s still developing. I seriously doubt, as a kid, he was trying to emulate anyone. Alcaraz has heart and fight and he’s a solid all around player. He makes shots that can light up any highlight reel. When he’s healthy and focused you can’t help but smile to see him out there on court. He is much more like Carlos Alcaraz than he is Rafa or Roger.

Guess what people were saying about Novak aged 20. Carlos is doing fine. He’s taking it slow at the beginning of next season, and everything that’s happening to him now is clover, because he’ll learn from it.

The kid is exceptional..

Exactly what he’s saying, and he’s right. But he doesn’t know he’s right. He thinks he’s saying something else.

I think… :popcorn

Pegasus defeated FAA . I didn't see the match but I just saw the meeting at the net. Felix looks pissed off he lost. That's awesome he knows he has to continue to tweak parts of his game.
