What happened? What did the polish peasant? Marin just disappointed?

Just caught the last game! Didn't see the whole thing! I only watched Nole's match; concerned initially looking rather ragged with UFE's flying off his racket! The forehand was non-existent where it looked like he was afraid to even hit it it got so bad in the middle of the 1st set! He came alive in the TB & it was lit'l more than a formality after that! I didn't watch much of Nadal's match, but the announcers were raving about how well he played & held serve so easily! WTF? He still had a close match IMO & Mannarino made him work! :nono:

How did Rafa and Nole play today? Looks straightforward for both but scores can be misleading.
As @Bonaca said above, Nole was "lackluster." A lot of unforced. Moutet was courageous for the first set, and got an early break. Rafa looked pretty good in his match, but Mannarino had his lefty serve working, and got a lot of cheap points on it. Mannarino played a pretty good match and flummoxed Nadal sometimes. You'll take my bias into account, but I think that Rafa looked the sharper of the two. But Rafa now has the bigger test 2nd round.

Now 5-2. Berrettini on the ropes. A bit of Tsonga really finding his serve in the 2nd, a bit of Matteo making rookie errors, maybe thinking too much ahead? And a huge crowd support for Jo-Wil.

Yeah just read the scores on the way home and a surprising loss for Medvedev. Chardy is a headcase. Wins when you don't want him to and vice versa. A disaster for draw challenges no doubt for those who do

Reading the shocking break point stats though, it's not like the end of the world. If he even converted one in set 3 he likely would have won the match. He'll be trying even harder to win at the WTF now although I dunno how that slow court will suit him.

Tsonga leading Berrettini 6-4 4-2

I'm even less nostalgic about the 2nd and 3rd tier of senior players! They really are more an annoyance than entertaining IMO! I just don't get all weepy watching Monfil kill himself trying to win a single match! Now Tsonga's trying to make it all the way back! Such underachieving of Wawrinka who's game should have netted him so much more! I so want the next-gen to finally get it together and change the era before I go! I could vapor-lock anytime!

I haven't watched the match but reading here and there and playing the first match after the USO I think Rafa has not played too bad

Tsonga wins! Great old-school performance from him. Berrettini started strong, but pulled back, IMO. Needs to learn not to get ahead of himself. They say he's still in contention for the YEC, but I guess now it comes down to others. Great Jo-Wil, though.

He doesn't deserve a trip to London. Last week he got pushed abound by Domi. This week he allows a geriatric Jo to boss the rallies. Needs to go home and watch YEC on TV like the rest of us.

That's slightly bitter. He's only just getting used to the air at the upper echelons. Same as Meddy. But he did fail to focus on today, with a bit of a gaze to the future, I think. Rookie error.

Oops about the SF post, that's wrong. Monfils needs to reach the final. Albot R16, Zverev or Shapovalov QF, potentially Nadal SF.

Matteo is at 2670 pts
To overtake Matteo, de Minaur and Stan must win the tournament and finish at 2685 and 2910 pts respectively
Monfils Semifinal appearance gets him to 2710, Final appearance gets him to 2950.
de Minaur is in top half, Monfils and Stan bottom half and potential SF opponents.

Expecting Nadal to defeat Stan tomorrow, so it'll be Monfils SF requirement then.

It's truth. Sorry, if you can't handle that.
