Pouille is the usually Federer "sparring", maybe this last one should teach him more about the first set ;)

Just been watching Pouille. He doesn't look bad actually. Got some decent power off both wings. How old is he?

I don't know, Lucas Pouille is #108 but quite talented and is a good candidate to end the year in the top 40-50.

He is talented, but he really needs a first serve.

Exactly

Thanks. Guess he's got time to build into something. Tough to say if he's just a potential top 20 player or a top 10 guy. I really like what I saw stroke-wise. But hard to get a sense of the mentality which is what it takes to get into the top 20 or better

All favorites prevailed today across the board.
For the round of 18, except Haider-Maurer, the rest qualified are the top 16 (minus Gulbis).

Please go watch the "Hot Shot" on the ATP site today. Monfils is such a clown.

They've moved it off the homepage, but here's a link:

He is an artist but I'm not sure if he takes the game too seriously

I am not sure if folks pay attention, but Rafa is playing with a new stick. It is said to give him more power and spin (as if he needs more) but less control. He is keeping the same strings (Babolat RPM Blast, 16 gauge).

I think he got tired of hitting the balls so short recently and control be damned, lets get more power and even more spin. The string he uses is already one of the most spin friendly co-pollies you can find.
I also think this is the right time for him to try this, beginning of clay season.

Seems as though Tsonga v. Cilic should be a fun one to watch. I'm picking Jo.
This is the only match where the betting odds are in the favor of the lower ranked player, JWT in this case.

Yep, I've read about it and it seems he likes the new racquet;)

I don't think Federer or Ferrer will ultimately be troubled, but Isner is one of the last people Rafa would want or need to play right now -- even on clay.

He needs to gain confidence through rhythm and consistency; Isner provides zero rhythm. Tiebreaks are almost inevitable (four of their last seven sets were settled in tiebreaks), which means the whole match could be decided on one or two points.

I'm interested in Wawrinka vs. Dimitrov. Pressure is on both sides: Wawrinka as defending champion, and Grigor once again in the position to live up to the expectations of "Baby Fed", but has yet to make it to a Masters final.

I noticed this earlier as I was looking at the draw. It's rare all but one makes it to the R16, nevertheless on clay. Gulbis must feel like the class clown.
