So the Swiss team goes home...not like it is a long way home, but it will be depressing one. Not surprised at all at both results.

They are showing Roger's match on Sportsnet right now, Murat. I watched the first set. Roger did not play too well. Up and down through the match.
Monbfils on another hand was playing solid, with deep shots into the court, keeping Roger on the defensive or neutral, unable to dictate points.

Yep, I am watching it too. And I agree with your assessment.

Can we just play a tie break for the second set and move on? Isner really blew that. A one-trick pony.

The one trick pony had some other plans. He knows Rafa needs match play;)

As much as I love watching Monfils, I am not looking forward to his match against Fed. We all know he could beat anyone if he kept his head (which he does all too infrequently, to the relief of everyone on tour). Afterall, it was Monfils who pushed Fed so hard at last year's USO that Fed got injured and lost the next round. I am not sure Fed ever admitted to his injury, but sadly he was which deprived him of the chance to win his 18th major.

Honestly, I disagree. I am really far from thinking that Monfils could beat everyone only if he had focus. You really have a point about last year's USO, but at least IMO Federer played a very poor match, and payed the price. Federer's B game should be enough to beat Monfils comfortably, and, running the risk of eating my words in two hours, I believe Federer will handle Monfils quite easily today.

Next time I will shut my mouth. Federer played as poorly as possible, around 40 UFE, one gift after another.

Federer is a complete lunatic if he believes he can beat anyone of note playing defensively, and even that he didn't do so well. Pathetic.

Not to upset with an early loss here from Roger. The worst thing he can do for RG is go deep at all 4 tournaments he is scheduled to play beforehand. And the worst thing he can do for Wimbledon is go deep at all of these warm-up tournaments, RG, and Halle. If Roger wins Istanbul and Madrid (or at least gets to the final of Madrid), and then goes down early in Rome I'd be plenty OK with that.

Just watched the Rodge le Monf match.
Roger was up a break in the first set, to be broken then twice.
He was also up in the TB 5-3, to lose the next 4 points, 3 due to IE.
Not good play by him, overall.

I haven't seen the whole match, just the two last games but I see a MUCH better Rafa. I hope that win has helped him to find himsef

Who is Haider-Maurer? I've never heard about him and I've never remember to see him playing

And Ferru-Simon 6-2 1-0. I thought it would be a litte more competitive......
Rafa-Ferru will be a very interesting match

A 28y old late blooming Austrian who has been featured in the recent weeks on my week to week new career high ranking postings you obviously do not read;)
And by the way, next week he will feature again, because with his result here he will break into the top 50 for the first time, despite his inevitable loss today to Nole.

I am now rooting for Monfils to take the title. Nothing would make me happier than for him to win FO. I think if winning matches meant more to him than entertaining the crowd and he could stay free of injuries, Monfils could beat anyone.

Just to set the record straight, Fed sustained a leg injury while playing Monfils at USO 2014. My husband went to watch Fed practice before his Cilic match and texted me that Fed could not hit his BH. Not one single handed BH was hit during the entire practice. He hit a few two handed BH. Not making excuses. Only stating an interesting observation.

Good to see Nole marching through with ease.

Yeah....I see, he is the #52 ranked and his result here is not going to change too much the numbers, isn't?

Gilles is more competitive when he isn't playing back to back (to back), tournaments.

Bummed to see that Jo lost today. Have a lot of tennis to catch up with on the DVR.

I'm not sure if I want a win by Ferru or Simon, I like both players but who ever plays better who ever I'd like playing against Rafa, why? because Rafa likes to be the hunter and I like to see him playing against the tougher opponents, a good way to wake up, if he wins then it will be better to find pronto his confidence and of course absolutely more credit for him
