Thiem manages to pull through next up Schwartzman. Thiem will have to clean up the errors. Good test for him to start his second week.

This kid can be proud with himself, he gave it all. Thiem obviously better, but the fight until the last point was great. Great match.

Thiem took a lesson today from a youngster, but I am sure he is humble enough to learn from it. The kid has great, great hands, but Thiem made his life easier with some costly and absurd errors. Also -- and that was the worst part -- he let that get to his head, and he stopped doing the things that were working. But he dug deep, and got a champion's win. Next up, Diego, another small guy with a giant game.

Regardless of how badly Rafa destroys him the QF goes, it would seem that this is a breakthrough tournament for Jannik Sinner.

Nice to see some "new" young guys do well: Korda, Altmaier, Gaston.

Everyone has a bad day at shop even Nadal and Djokovic. We will see if Thiem can turn this around.
You really think Novak or Nadal would have let him of the hook with a 2:0 lead in slam final? Come on, it was giraffe, that saved him.

how many dropshots did gaston hit in the last half of the match i saw..they all mainly a success what with dom not moving up the court at all (ooh look dropshot no38..what a surprise, caught me out)..hurr durr, gaston missed some droppers at the end though so he came down from his goaty level softhands/wand thing he had going on.

in the 5th set courier was going "this bloke recently lost to world no240s 350rank" and he had dom as his personal yo-yo.

that a classily guy Nadal is giving fanboy Korda a free training session today 6-1 6-1 6-2 showing him how good he can be if copy's Nadal on And off the court. he also inspired Korda to play tennis in the first place, as well All Spanish players even Ferrer on top of all that a whole generation of kids around the world. Nadal is a hero to everyone and the goat :yesyes::trophy:

I wasn’t talking about a specific instance more like tennis in general where even the top guys have a bad day. I’ve seen Nadal and Novak breeze through rounds only to play like garbage out of nowhere. It happens. Thiem managed to right the ship like I’ve also seen Novak and Nadal do as well.

I love it. Lord of the Droppers.
Kudos to Team Theim , not his best day but he battled through . Dominic has to be a bit exhausted after finally snagging his first Major, I don’t think his biggest issue is physical as it is mental.

The switch from HC to red clay and different continents in a short turn around, Theim was bound to have a bad day.
