There is this hilarious kid rooting for Monfils with all of his might, and he's sitting right behind Darren Cahill. They keep showing him on tv. Darren probably too polite to tell him he's Sinner's coach. The kid is too young to know. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I know there are lots of folks out there who would have liked to see this kind of commitment and focused tennis from Gael years ago, but it is a joy, and better late than never. But he's off, and Sinner is still in. With...Paul, DeMinaur, and Foki. I'm with @rafanoy1992...just keep your head down and win this one, Jannik. It's coming gift-wrapped.

100%

Part of what makes players great is that they take advantage of what they are given in front of them. It does not matter if they are facing the top players or they are facing the Top 100 ranked player, they just get it done period!

For Sinner, he can't asked for a better opportunity. Just take it, Jannik!

If you have to serve low percentage to win these two matches, then do it! There are no more style points in terms of winning M1000 or Slam tournaments.

As I have followed Jannik since he was a junior I would love to see him win in Toronto, I will still take one match at a time
This Masters 1000 event in Toronto has been most surprising with many of the top players defeated in round 2
Tommy Paul played well against Alcaraz, it wont be a walk in the park for Jannik in his SF that is a certainty.Hopefully he can win and be in the final

Agreed. Part of a champion's mentality is taking the opportunities offered. Embrace the moment, Jannik.

I agree with Roberto that it's not black & white. Personally, I don't mind Murray's chirping. It's at his own box, or at himself, and he's otherwise a very good role model. As to general purposes, I don't mind the odd outburst if it's not habitual, out of the ordinary, or directed at others, which includes the crowd and the chair umpire. As to Alcaraz, he's generally a well-behaved player and a gentlemanly presence on court. He did break a racquet today. I will forgive him, as long as he doesn't make a habit of it.
Rafa never broke a racket on court.

So some things are black & white ; )

Jannik Sinner had kind words for Gael Monfils,

"He's very funny off court, on court. For all the fans its very nice to see. He enjoys his tennis.Sometimes we need these kinds of characters in tennis., its nice to see him here. I wish him all the best".

By the way, I would like to congratulate to Holger Rune for reaching his career high ranking of Number 5 this upcoming Monday. At 20 years old, it is a huge accomplishment to be one of the Top 5 players in the world!

Also, it will be more than likely that he will be a Top 4 seed at the USO unless of course he flames out early at Cincy OR Tsitsipas reach the Cincy final again this year.

Well he only got to No 5 because of Ruud losing early in Toronto? Rune also lost early in Toronto a winnable match for him.Lets see how he performs in Cinncy, his match in Toronto was far from impressive.

Carlos Alcaraz on his loss to Tommy Paul ( source The Tennis Letter)

"I didnt play well. All I can do is practice to be better. I have some weeks before the US Open. I have to be focused on Cincinnati. It's a Mastersm1000.It's a big tournament. But obviously, I take a lot of lessens from this tournament".

But he's basically the only one. Blake never did. Ruud says he's going to try to emulate that.

However, he has had the occasional argument with an umpire. (Bernardes was an extreme example.) And he did get warned for an audible obscenity once for dropping an F-bomb. He said to the umpire: you know I never normally do that. And the umpire said, I know, but you just did, and I heard it.

So it isn't black & white...even the most well-behaved get a bit hot under the collar occasionally. I can forgive it if it's rare, and not especially egregious, as I said.

But it is black & white on every given occasion. Even your example above, Nadal doesn't normally drop F bombs on court. But that day he did and he was held accountable. That's black & white. The frequency of a behavior doesn't negate whether it is bad behavior or not.

So what you're saying is you rate bad behavior in degrees. But life doesn't work that way. Something is either good or it's bad. Whether it's a little bad, doesn't stop it from being bad. It's still bad. It's like being a little pregnant or a little unemployed. There are no such things. You either are or you're not.
