Both Russians are 2 of the best of the younger guys out there. I like both of them and wouldn't mind who wins tbh.
Me too, but Karen will have better chances against bull. So I prefer him to win.

Karen could reach final and maybe win ???

I hope he does! I like his all-or-nothing style. He's kinda wobbly up in the head though. I also want the young guys to take over the tour as soon as possible, as I have grown tired of Big3.

Karen was the trailblazer, as the next Russian to win a master title since Davydenko, but Medvedev had the stronger season.
It will be an interesting duel.

Nadal gets these types of breaks occasionally, as he needs them.
He got it in Paris, now here.
It seems quite unfair
As if it only happens to Nadal? Roger had some felicitous scheduling at RG, too. He just had to play Rafa in the SF. And Novak has gotten some breaks when he needed them...some he has capitalized on, some not. (Wimbledon '15 down 2 sets to 1, I think, v. Anderson and they had to stop for the day; down 2 sets to love v. Querrey when they had to stop for the day...his fault he didn't make the most of that one. And he got to stop v. Thiem in the SF at RG this year. He badly wanted to stop that match and they did, eventually, but he couldn't capitalize the next day.) For the top guys, I think the "luck" (either in draws or weather, or line clippers) eventually evens out. They haven't won this much due to an especial amount of "luck."

This event looks like Medvedev coming out party.
Karen has to eat a baguette in the first set.

Fairness has nothing to do with it. Everyone gets a lucky break at some point. You just notice them more when they happen to players you don’t like.

I'm not sure how much "luck" Nadal needs to beat Monfils, anyway. The H2H is 14-2, both of Monfils wins coming in Doha, and the last one in 2012.

I read on twitter Gael is going to speak to his team,he hurt his foot in his match and does not know if he will play Rafa later.

If this is not luck, nothing else is. Seriously.
Seriously? Why, because Gael was going to beat him otherwise? I hope you read @tented's post above and mine. It's not like Roger or Djokovic would have to bail on playing him.

Didn't see a minute of the match, but Medvedev just won in straights.

No he's not on another plane than them. He got lucky in set 1 against Evans and no one knows how it would've gone down if he'd lost that first set although you and others here would clearly have expected him to win. That's just your opinion though. Evans gave Federer a tough match last year at the USO. He's a decent player and no way is Nadal on a different plane than him as the score showed. Another plane would indicate he should stomp him 6-2 6-2 but it was 7-6 (8) 6-4. Different plane my arse.

Fognini has had a lot of injury problems the last few months: Ankle, elbow, leg. He went from dominating the first set 6-2 to winning just 3 more games so it's pretty obvious it was a legit injury and far different from taking a MTO while losing to stop your opponent's momentum and then winning. He lost and he lost badly 'cos he was clearly impaired.

Not denying F3's injuries, and the current one he's dealing with. Even Rafa talked to him about foot surgery, saying that he'd had the same, and the recovery was quick. And both Evans and Fognini troubled Rafa. But you act like it's outrageous to say that Nadal is on another level, and so the outcome isn't so surprising, no matter the circumstances. Fognini is 4-12 career H2H v Nadal. Career high #9, 9 career titles. Evans is career high #41, currently #53. No titles. I won't bother you with Rafa's CV. However, if I had dared suggest that anyone who has ever troubled Roger, even the slightest bit and even at this stage in his dotage, your hair would go on fire, I'm pretty sure. Fognini and Evans are nowhere near the same level as Nadal, when we talk about resumes. Evans is a not untalented journeyman, but he was never going to win that match. Fognini is talented but sporadic and unpredictable. Would he have won had he been in full health? Maybe, but history is not in his favor.

So Monfils did give the W/O. Gilbert and P-Mac debating the notion of slotting in LL (in this case, RBA) to give the fans a match. Anyone have an opinion on that? Controversial, but interesting.

If it’s in the spirit of Andy Murray making an emergency trip to the O2 after Roger pulled out of the ATP Finals, and playing an exhibition with Novak, then OK. But I’m assuming they meant in terms of making it a genuine match, in which case they’re just talking to fill time. Again.
