I wonder what Federer is doing differently now compared to late 2011. Federer won 26 matches in a row from September2011-January2012 (Nadal broke that streak, at the AO).

It's called "getting old!" I'm as much a Fed fan as anyone, but he can't last forever! He very well may win another major, but that run that took back to #1 isn't happening again! It's all downhill for him now; sorry! That's just the way it is; and will continue to be for athletes no matter how well they take care of themselves!

Believe me, I'm as happy as anyone. I don't know if there has ever been a less likeable athlete than Federer in history.

I'm sure there are just as many people who feel the same way about your hero so don't worry. Anyway, on the subject of this thread, I think Fed will get his mojo back and finish with 23 slams.

The difference is I'm being sarcastic but you're being serious in predicting up to 9 more for Nadal. Anyway, good luck with that prediction. Should make a bet on a few websites. Maybe you can retire and go live on Bora Bora island in a few years time.

Who me? You must have me mixed up with someone else! I'm no cheerleader for the ugly tennis that Nadal plays; no thank you! He will get nowhere near those numbers if there's any justice in this world!

He thought you were me. He's not great at reading/posting.

BTW Front242, I said 18-22. That means if Nadal wins 18, I am 100% correct. I am also 100% if Nadal wins 19 etc.

Sorry Fiero425, bud. Getting late here and I thought that was a post from NADAL2005RG who clearly doesn't get sarcasm much given some of the posts I've read so I presumed it was from him

Um...I bet we could come up with a pretty long list, actually, even if you just narrowed it back down to tennis. Fed is not my favorite, clearly, but he is wildly popular in our sport. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but you might want to note that it IS just your opinion, given that there is lots of evidence to the contrary, in terms of general consensus.

I can't. Federer/Armstrong is the only athlete I've ever disliked 100%.

Oh yes, Federer was a bandwagoners dream. WAS being the operative word :laydownlaughing

That has to be a misprint! Roger and Stefan Edberg epitomized the most popular and sportsmanlike players of their eras!

I'll laugh my ass off if Fed gets his form back for indoor season and dishes out another lopsided win against Nadal at the WTF, 'cos hey, he's old and years past his prime and your guy is the undisputed king who is going for global domination as you say.

Nadal has already said he doesn't consider Indoor Tennis to be real tennis. So its not like it matters what Federer does during the indoor season. He can win 26 in a row for all I care (as he did in late 2011 to early 2012, and then Nadal beat him at the AO).

"Bandwagon?" Now I might have to lay down laughing. Roger didn't win 17 Majors by being a flash-in-the-pan that a few starry-eyed fans took up because, 'hey, he might just have something.' Plus, if you've ever been to a tournament, or perhaps even watched one on TV, his fan-base constitutes more of a "tidal wave."

He's entitled to his opinion. And we're allowed to disagree with it. (See above.)

Uh, you can't talk about bandwagons when discussing Federer since it's not like he did well for a while, everyone hopped on and that was it. The dude dominated for ages.

NADAL2005RG

When I say "bandwagoner's dream", I mean those who are new to tennis, looking at who to choose as their favorite player.....they weren't likely to choose Roddick/Hewitt. Federer was the easy option during 2004-2007 if you want to back the likely winner of each event. They didn't foresee though, how short his prime would be. And of course they didn't foresee that Nadal would expand to other surfaces. Its a bit like Kobe Bryant. Lots of bandwagoners in his camp (plus they gravitate toward the Lakers anyway). Even the rape accusation didn't deter them too much. Now some of them are jumping to LeBron.....just as a lot of Federer's fans are jumping on the Nadal train late.

I wouldn't mind if it did happen, but I've seen this before! With Martina Navratilova, there was a time she was thought "done!" I'd say technically it was '87 even though she won Wimbledon and the USO! Up to that Wimbledon, she lost final after final; even with a lead like at Eastborne; 5-1 in the 1st set, only to lose the match in straights! It was the strangest thing to hear about since we didn't get these odd matches on tv back then! She won a Wimbledon in '90 and was pretty much written off, only sporadically showing brilliance in the odd match against Seles or Graf! In '91 after losing a Wimbledon quarter to Jennifer Capriati, she relegated herself to WTT that summer, not even playing a warmup event before the USO!

Like Roger, Martina's ranking started to drop, at #5 in the world, but seeded only #6 at the USO! She looked a little shakey initially in her first few matches barely squeaking by Manuela Meleeva who had beaten her the year before in 3 sets! Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario promised to be no pushover in the quarters and was leading by a set and break, but allowed Martina to win tie-breaker in the 2nd and ran away with the 3rd! Graf was her next match and most people thought this was a foregone concluded match allowing another Seles v Graf match in the final! It didn't happen, Martina summoning up one more effort actually controling the match putting Steffi on the defensive with her "chip and charge" tactic! She was even rolling over her backhand in that match winning it 7-6,6-7, 6-4! Seles finished her off in the final 7-6 & 6-1 with Martina finally running out of gas! I just see so many parallels with Federer! Both are just hanging around with no real hope of reclaiming past glories! I just hope Roger doesn't try to just hang around lurking other than taking another major! Martina played one more Wimbedon final in '94 with a ton of upsets of top players including Steffi in the 1st round to Lori McNeil! Will that happen to Federer? One last major final for Navratilova, only to be blown off the court by none other than Conchita Martinez! She just didn't have the mph on her 1st serve and it was dispatched a number of times with simple angles! I don't want to see him go out like that too!

That's not only cynical, it's presumptuous. You're saying that people chose to be fans of Roger because, what...they were newbies, and didn't have a better option? Plenty of very savvy people about tennis gravitated towards Federer...because of his game. And, btw, if you think there is more than a minuscule amount of Fedfans that are jumping over to Rafa's camp, I'd have to say you're wrong. Most of them are "anyone-but-Nadal," as I read it.
