Clay Death said:its interesting to note that serena--roughly his age--is absolutely decimating the field.
tommy has is pushing 36 and he is about to get into top 10.
a 40 year old just won the u.s. open doubles championship.
so there is plenty of inspiration to be had.

Why are you obsessed with players needing to skip slams? Of all the tournaments Roger can skip, you choose Roland Garros? Makes zero sense, and I don't understand why many here always feel the need for drastic measures.

Clay Death said:agreed. he will only get killed at RG.
why not spend the extra time on grass and get some traction going for Wimbledon.
he can always practice on the red clay on his own to fine tune his ground game.
time has come indeed to skip RG.

Five setter played this year in which Novak led in the fifth suggests he "can," yes. Stating otherwise is a bit delusional.
Front242 said:He's getting closer to beating him there. That match could've easily ended up with Novak winning. Remember how Nadal edged closer to beating Fed at Wimbledon in 2007 and then won in 2008. Well, draw a parallel here. Novak's been poor in finals this year and even playing subpar made it to 7-9 in the 5th, while leading 4-2 serving for 5-2. I'd say it's delusional to not assume he'll get the better of Nadal there at some stage.

Nadal took seven months off and still almost dispatched Nole in 4! I think Nole did well to get to five, but that might be the best shot he has. I think next time it's more likely back to a four sets win for Rafa, than a defeat*...
A lot can change between now and May/June so we'll see. Novak's been poor in all the big moments this year in slam finals and has surely got a point to prove to try and redeem himself next year. The 3rd set at the US Open was the final nail in the coffin for him and I hope he wakes from his slumber. I'd love to have seen what would have entailed had he won that set but we'll never know. There are many examples of players with time off coming back and playing well. Look at Clijsters. And he almost won in 4 doesn't count. Fed almost beat Novak in 2 US opens with 2 mps in the 5th in that case Unless you do it, it doesn't count. I was merely backing up Broken's post that of course Novak has shown he can win at RG against Nadal. Whether he will remains to be seen.
