I think at this point Vika just has to listen to her body, when she was ranked higher she was still beset by injuries so my guess is that Vika feels that playing into competitive shape the ranking points will take care of themselves.

Vika may only be up to 19, but she's now only 1000 points away from the top 10. I imagine she can get herself at least into the top 16 by the US Open. Fingers crossed she'll finally be in the other side of the draw from Serena.

Is she scheduled to play Stanford? If she's not, why didn't she play Istanbul? That's a HC and w/ the current field of players there, she could have secured a title and got her ranking up some.

She's scheduled to play the Citi Open. Kind of smart if you ask me, since there's no chance of facing Serena!

The Citi Open is a good choice. There's some 2nd tier players there, but no one that should bother her really. I went last year and it's a very nice run tournament w/ a great crowd turn out. I thought the tickets were reasonably priced as well. This year I believe Sloane and Genie have decided to play. On the men's side, Murray and Nishikori will be there.

A few nice names on both sides actually. Not a BIG field but hey not bad either. Nice location in a city also.

[split] Rankings

Interesting things with ranking, Caro is with in striking distance of that #4 seeding for the U.S. Open, so she should put her all in making that happen bumping Petra to the #5 seed. Technically speaking, she, Petra and Halep depending on the results one of them could be the odd woman out of the top 4. Muguruza among others can definitely reach within top 8 seeding for the Open with good results. That will be the interesting one to see is who will be in the 5-8 positions as they are up for grabs depending on results. It will be interesting to see if Vika can get in the top 16 before the Open. Maria doesn't look to be in any danger of losing the #2 seed.

Caro should play hard this summer to get to no.3...she has been in two finals at the USA Open and probably better than Vika at this event.Fans always talk about Vika behind Serena at the Open and forgetting that Caro has done well at USA Open .

I guess since Maria isn't playing Toronto then there are chances for the number 2 seed to be up for grabs before the Open. Simona, Petra and Caroline can make a move, but it would require flawless play in Toronto and Cincy to get it.

I don't know if you watched any of the finals Vika played in the US Open, as oppose to Caro final appearances, but, Vika was a hairs throw away from winning one of her finals, 2012, and both her appearances it was a three setter.

So, I don't know where you get Caro was probably better at the Open.

so near and yet so faraway:lolz:...it doesnt matter if Vika was almost near because she has not beaten Serena since tthen...a loss is a loss and Vika or Maria will reach a milestone of 20 losses this season against Serena.:popcorn

That is shocking. I'm starting to wonder if her body will let her come back.

It just goes to show her form is not 100% back because when she was on the only people she really lost too were top 10 players and those losses were mostly to Top 5 players back in the 2012-2013 time span.

With her USO win, Pennetta will move up 18 spots to No. 8 in the rankings next week. Vinci will move up 24 spots to No. 19.

Kerber also moves into the Top Ten at No. 10. Pliskova and Suarez Navarro drop out of the Top Ten.
