About Doha

Doha is the capital of Qatar with a population of 1.35million. The city is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf. Once a British protectorate, it was known for its pearl trade and is now sustained by its oil wealth.

Ringing its downtown waterfront are numerous parks and the Corniche Promenade. On a man-made island, the I.M. Pei–designed Museum of Islamic Art houses an extensive collection from across the Muslim world. At Souq Waqif, a traditional market, vendors offer goods like clothing, crafts and spices.

I did the draw challenge for this. This is a very tough field. Berdy has Kohly first round. Tough pick there, as both are likely sinking this year. I wonder what shape Goffin is in. Djokovic should win, but not a given.

I don't see much of a threat to Djokovic here.

In the sense that there is no threat to Djokovic at the moment?

No, in the sense that no one in the field here is threatening to Novak. Only interesting candidate is Khachanov and Novak just now defeated him in straight sets in Mudabala.

Djokovic butchered him in FH-to-FH exchanges.
Djokovic was running around his BH many times lol.

^Not exactly good news for the rest of the tour. Checked some long high lights and saw dozens of those killer backhands that earned him 3 majors. With that monster weapon clicking he can beat just about everyone in R1 at AO (remember, he is unseeded).

It is not the first time Herbert defeats Thiem on HC. Herbert is an aggressive player coming to the net often with very good volley skills.
All I can say is Thiem Is 0:4 for the year and he looks like he cannot improve on HC.

Year has barely begun. How come he managed to lose four times.

He played 3 times in Abu Dhabi. He lost twice to Khachanov and once to Chung.
The second match to Khachanov took place because Rafa withdrew and Thiem replaced him in that match.

Good point about him being unseeded for AO. He plays our buddy Jarry next round.

I watched those highlights. Both players had lots of spectacular points .It had to be a high quality encounter.
