COPE reports that the Spainish Governement is now investigating whether unvaccinated Novak Djokovic entered illegally in late December.
Holy crap. Novak really seems to have opened up a can of worms.

So Djoke plays AO as though nothing is amiss, then suddenly if he is deported, he gives a walkover to whomever his opponent is? Ridiculous.

What date did he arrive in Spain?
Carol did post way back that he was in Marbella training after xmas, on a similar surface, with AO balls, and with video. I'm not sure if the date matters, but he was in Spain in between when he was in Belgrade at Christmas, and when he went to Melbourne on the 5th?, but in any case, that was within the 14 days when he declared that he hadn't been to another country in the previous 14 days. (Oh, right...his agent ticked that box. Accidentally.) But now Spain has to look into his paperwork. This is getting complicated. And I thought it already was.

I think if he’s deported and he plays, he’ll lose even more credibility. He should man up and stop this now…

What I’m wondering is, did he arrive before isolation period should have ended? And did he arrive in Spain and flash a covid recovery cert, which is accepted in the EU?

Theoretically, he can withdraw from the tournament and leave before they cancel his visa. Wouldn’t that remove the 3 year ban?

Well, if his certs hold up, he had a negative test on 22 Dec. Everything I have seen on the website for ministry of Spain makes it look like it could hold up, unless he needed another negative within 72 hours and didn't do another test. Clearly he went to Spain more than 72 hours after his negative test that we saw.

If he had any integrity he’d do this. Seriously. He’s not battling for justice and truth, he’s battling for loopholes so his lies won’t matter. He has no principles if they deport him but he stays and plays due to a legal technicality…

I think if he does that, he cut a deal. Australia is under no obligation to keep from prosecuting him or banning him, if he's done wrong, just because he left voluntarily.

I think the integrity question was settled when he threw his agent under the bus. Or maybe when he threw his own principles out the window, against vaccination, and decided to go with "recent infection." He's been relying on loopholes this whole time. That's hardly a convicted stance.

Well that’s true, but I’d hope a tiny sliver of some principle still exists in him on this matter. But he’s showing megalomaniacal tendencies, all these petty rules, they’re not for him - he’s acted as if his lies wouldn’t be noticed, and if they were, he’d get a fistful of rich lawyers in to squash it. Bizarre, and tragic, really…

I doubt Djoke cares about the three year ban. He knows 2022 is his best chance. Next genners will beat him in 2023 and 2024.
Four hours left…
