The Independent summed it up this way:

"As predicted it was Djokovic’s experience at the airport upon arrival in Australia that proved key to his case.
Judge Kelly ruled that border control didn’t give Djokovic enough time to respond after notifying him of their intent to not grant him a visa with the world number one unable to contact his agent or legal representation.
The government admitted as much ending their case.
Djokovic is now free to enter Australia, pending further intervention from authorities, with the Australian Open a week away."

So, he got mistreated by the border force, and so however valid his exemption is, or what the law is doesn't matter? How often does THAT happen? So it DOES work if you can afford a really expensive lawyer.

Yep and Novak got a great one....I want to know how will he be allowed to move around Melbourne Park unvaccinated?
Lets see if Alex Hawke decides to use his power and cancel his visa and deport him
BTW he got through on a technicality.....

Well, Australia looks ridiculous right now. They should make no further efforts to detain him, he should be welcomed into the country. And if Australians are upset by the decision, I hope it’s because they themselves are not being freed, and that they’re not upset with Djokovic…

They might also be upset because they are going to pay his court costs. Presumably that doesn't include the expensive lawyer, though?

All this could have been avoided by putting Nole on a short lease and tested him twice a day! A bubble is possible since the man is surrounded around the clock anyway! Just limit his contacts and avoid the usual handshake or hug after each match! :fearful-face::facepalm::good:

It is nothing to do with court costs, its the principal of his medical exemption which was not a factor?

It could also have been avoided by not allowing unvaccinated players an out. Offer a loophole and the guy with a lot of money will get through it. I guess that's what they were counting on.

The court has released part of the transcript from Novak Djokovic's immigration interview. This is my favourite bit so far: INTERVIEWER: What were your reasons for travelling to Australia today?

IF he did, he might be, but both are debatable.
In most western countries, a recovery is considered the same for the purpose of travel. From that perspective, he’s no more danger to anyone than a triple jabbed citizen standing in the queue for number 4.

The question is whether or not he followed procedure. At this point, they’ve made such a huge fuss and mess of things, they’re better off not pressing it further, and accepting they dropped the ball, and leave it now…

I have always respected Novak with his views on vaccines, though when you are coming to a country that high vaccinations,to me you have to respect their laws that stand at present that is all.

I heard somewhere that the legal costs are around half a million dollars and the Australian government must reimburse him.

That is your opinion
I’m just amazed how it turned out, didn’t see it coming

my opinion is the Australian government looks ridiculous now, and they better don’t push things further
