is the given date correct? did he get the result on the 16th or was he tested? result on 17th? at which time?
many uncertainties
soon we will have clarity, at least some kind of decision.
I read the procedure could drag on and thus enable Novak to play.
unbelievable stuff
Good questions, and welcome to the forum! But if he was tested on the 16th, he’d still have to isolate until he got the results? As you say, there’s a lack of clarity about all this. I wonder if it’ll be clear after tomoro, or will it drag on. If it drags, is it possible he could be allowed to play? I heard the same from another source but it boggles belief. Surely he’d still be suspected of having broken the law, in which case he’d have to be confined?

French Newspaper L'Equipe, which named Novak Djokovic Champion of Champions for 2021,now reveals that Novak took part in a photo shoot with the trophy in Belgrade (posed without a mask),on December 18th,two days after allegedly testing positive for COVID-19 ( according to his lawyers).

A positive test on December 16th for Novak Djokovic, would have come too late for the Tennis Australia exemption process deadline as described to players.According to Tennis Australia documents, the deadline for applying for an exemption had been nearly a week earlier, "not later than" December 10th.

"Whether or not you use the independent panel or use your own Australia doctor.all medical exemptions must be the ATAGI guidelines.Accordingly,we reterate that the easiest way to ensure access to Melbourne Park for the Australian Open is to be fully vaccinated. It you wish to have your medical exemption reviewed by the independent panel you will need to forward your application and supporting documentation to AOplayerMedical@Tennis.Com urgently and no later than Friday 10th December,2021".

Tennis Australia was bending over backwards trying to get Djoke to play AO. He should have just sat out and committed to winning FO, Wimby, or USO to get his 21 majors. The hit to his popularity isn’t worth all this negative publicity.

Hi....it is a complete mess....I guess we will all find out tomorrow after the judge hears both sides.
According to his lawyers and what I have read apparently he did get an exemption from Home Affairs?
who really knows

correctly you should isolate yourself until you get the test result, but i would say imperative just in case of symptoms
would you say also in case of a proforma test to enter a restaurant, for example? without symptoms?
What if it takes days to receive test results because the lab is overloaded? it becomes a common problem in some countries due to the massive expansion of testing?
Sorry for lot of questions

on the other hand if he received the pos result on the 16th and still went to the public events …. wow
maybe that’s the reason not to want to make it public under any circumstances

Hi Numbers,

They’re questions we’re all wondering about, but further to this, why did he take a test in the first place? Because he had symptoms? Or because he was a close contact of somebody who tested positive?

In either case, I would think that simple common sense would tell him not to go out in public after the test, until he’s gotten the negative result, or until he’s recovered from the virus. Basic reason being, he’s not exactly low profile, and he was obviously banking on this as his exemption. He was foolish, to be kind about it, and to be unkind, he was arrogant and not taking the test result seriously, either way.

He’s also got lousy advisers.

But also, I still wonder about this, that if the exemption date was the 10th December, had he resigned himself to not going to Australia when that date passed? Did he deliberately contract the disease to try the recovery option? And does he think he can bluster his way through the whole process and be allowed to play? His integrity has taken a huge knock, no matter what way we look at it. Unless of course, there’s further twists tomorrow that changes the narrative again. I can’t imagine a judge/arbiter tomorrow would be impressed or even care if Novak tried shift the blame onto TA. The responsibility to get the papers right is solely Novak’s…

Regardless of whether he got bad information from Tennis Australia, it is the Australian Government that decides whether you are entering their country, so your conversations need to happen with them before they happen with anyone else.

To me it is no different than what happened to Sharapova when they updated the banned substance list to include a drug she had been previously using. It was her responsibility to make sure everything was in order. This ultimately falls on Djokovic no matter what.

I think Tiley and Djokovic had no interest in what the Australian Government had to say and proceeded how they wanted.

Numbers if you are still around I just got this information from a Immigration Lawyer.,his take on Novak Djokovic and his appeal.

1. In Australia vaccinate or use 3 ways to get an exemption.Covid case in the past 6 months is not one.
2.To win appeal against visa refusal,Novak Djokovic must show Australia Border Force did not follow law. This is the sole issues.I cannot possibly see how they did not. What Djokovic or Tennis Australia did or said is totally irrelevant to the appeal.
3.Novak Djokovic timeline .November 2021 Tennis Australia told by government very strongly unvaccinated players not allowed.
TA sets deadline for players to show positive test by 10th December. For tournament entry not visa.He claims he tested positive for COVID December 16.Said nothing at time.
4. When Djokovic test positive COVID in June 2020 very vocal about result.17th and 18th December 2021 Djokovic attends publiv events. No mask.Shakes hands and photographed in groups. No mention of positive COVID test on day before.
Djokovic now submits request for exemption to Tennis Australia.
5.December 2021 Tennis Australia grant Djokovic exemption to play in AO.Applies for visa.Ticks box says has documents for medical exemptions.
January 2022 flies into Australia has no documents.Refused visa (of course). Is allowed to stay in hotel and appeal.
Has zero grounds for appeal.

Well we already know Tiley disregarded the advice from the government for unvaccinated players.

Novak has tested positive for Covid at least 2 times that has been made public.

You think someone is advising him? I think not. He is very much like Agassi in "I did it my way". Anyone getting paid the amount of moolah they make are not giving him lousy advice. He is not listening and like a petulant child, probably doing the exact opposite of what the team is saying.

You think they would allow him to play while his case is going on? Not! He hasn't been granted access into the country yet. You can't go anywhere until you've been cleared and then you can roam

Thx

it should be as you wrote, all sounds logic and right
i was wondering don't the authorities have to check in advance whether the conditions for a visa are met? why did he get one and was able to enter a plane?
just read that the government has requested a postponement of the proceedings in order to prepare better, this was rejected by the responsible judge
what should they prepare for better when the case is so clear?
it looks like mistakes were made on all sides

i read this whole mess could drag on for weeks or months and in the meanwhile he can stay and play due to disproportionate disadvantages for him
i know it sounds crazy

You can apply for a visa online and it is generated online, but you must have must have supporting documents to support the visa.
There has still be a lot of rumors and allegations from both sides.
We shall see how the judge rules tomorrow.,dont be surprised if there is another appeal.
