BS you retire, it’s on you. Vaccine is a personal choice, nothing to do with sports. Last years he was allowed, then not this year. He was banned, he chose to play….but not allowed due to personal choice. If you can’t see the difference, don’t worry…..just join the herd and sing the song. You are exactly where the pollies and pharma bosses want you to be. There are certainly enough compliant/obedient ones here.
So it's a players choice retiring due to injury? Try telling that to Zverev at RG :popcorn Choosing to not take a vaccine & play is a choice. You can't choose to be injured or not

@MargaretMcAleer . What the latest on this? Someone told me that the new government rules regarding non vaccinated people to visit Australia..is that true? So is the 3 years ban being lifted ?

Yes the rule has changed regarding people entering Australia, regarding being vaccinated against COVID. Novak has to apply for a new visa to enter Australia, no official news from our Immigration officials if he has applied for a new visa., at present there are just rumors in newspapers.

Interesting. Does means that Novak has to try to appeal his 3 year VISA ban? If so the deadline is .. Early November?

The rule is a joke, Aussie pollies are some of the worst idiots around. always reactive policies, short sighted and herd driven.

If you mean the rule that said you had to be vaccinate to get into Australia, they lifted that. Djokovic's problem is that in his visa hearing, when they revoke his visa they banned him from Australia for 3 years. He has to appeal that and see if they will lift the ban. That's what everyone is wondering about. There seems to be a feeling that it is about to be lifted, but that may just be speculation from Craig Tiley.

I don't see the point of Djokovic appealing the ban. It's all over, there's a new era in tennis with the resurgence of Alcaraz, Sinner, Ruud, Tiafoe, etc. 22-21-20 is where it ends.

Congrats to Nadal & his fans.

I am not certain what the time line is, though I would suggest to apply for a new visa ASAP.

After what happened last year, I would suggest Craig Tiley not to comment or speculate, regarding Novak and his new visa application, he has no power what so ever in granting a new visa, that is up to officials at the Immigration department, a sports journalist from Sydney attempted to find out if Novak would be granted a new visa from the Immigration Department a few weeks ago, No Comment was the answer.

That's what I was thinking, as to Tiley commenting, but I figured I'd let you say that, being closer to the source. But when I saw Don Fabio and AP asking about it, I did some googling, and it did seem to be based on Tiley speculating. That guy's a pot stirrer, no? (Some around here might say "it takes one to know one." :lulz1: ) I don't wonder that the Immigration Department had "No Comment," though. How can they possibly comment on the status of a private person's visa application? But I definitely think you must be right that he should apply to have it reviewed ASAP, if he hasn't already. (Tiley implies that he has applied, I guess.)

Tiley needs to 'engage brain period' it is not his place to speculate on visa or Immigration matters, he needs to remember his place.

If Novax was banned for 3 years? Why would that change? The 3 year ban is not because of his vaccination status, it was because of the bs with his entry forms?

Technically, he was banned because he was a bad influence on society, or something like that, for inspiring anti-vax sentiment, i think. But it doesn't change the fact that he lied on his entry forms. In reviewing lifting the ban, I would think that Australian Immigration would consider that. It was there on the internet for all to see. In the US, you can be banned for life for lying to immigration officers. In Australia, the penalties seem also very stiff. So many on the internet (and here) keep wondering why countries are going so hard on Novak. But no one seems to remember that countries don't owe anything to non-resident aliens, no matter how highly ranked they are in tennis. Australian Immigration could go the route that policies have changed and what banned him last January is a policy no longer in affect. Or they could look at the fact that he signed a false statement on his immigration form, and keep the ban in place, at least for another year. They may not want the perception of favoritism.

Government was concerned about his anti vaccine stance

It was his anti vaccine stance that was one of the main issues, remember too Melbourne had been in a heavy lock down period due to COVID, they were the longest COVID lock down of all countries, most people living in Melbourne especially wanted Novak gone as he was not vaccinated against COVID.

That statement, ' a slap in the face' was from one of the previous Federal government ministers, we have a new Federal Government in, it will be up to the Federal Immigration Minister if Novak's 3 year ban is lifted. ( BTW tickets for the AO go on sale today 12th October)

IMO it's not looking good... :popcorn

You don't have to be vaccinated to get into Australia, so what's the big deal? Where's the slap?
