Just an update on Matteo he says he will have scans and will see if he can play on Tuesday
His game is based on big serve and megadolon FH. if he's got an ab injury, he's better healing it and saving himself for the AO. Let his fellow Italian Sinner have a go.

I really can't see him playing he was in tears sad to see.Resting is the best way to heal a ab injury.

There's always a guy who looks like he doesn't belong in the WTF. This year it is Ruud.

This is one of those years where the Big 3 are aging out and being replaced! You also have this NG of players who break down easily! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :lol6:

Ruud just seems like the honorary "2.5 tier" guy in the WTF. There's always one. Meaning, the WTF includes the true elite ("1st tier") and sub-elite (2nd tier), and then a guy who is a good player, but not quite in either group. This year it is Ruud, last year Schwartzman. We can call it the "Janko Tipsarevic Slot."

We knew before the 1st ball was struck that Stefan was going to do nothing! I just didn't think he'd go down so easily against Ruud! WHO? :astonished-face:
I didn't see the 2nd singles today, but I think Tsitsipas lost to Rublev, which is more creditable. Also, did someone say that Stefanos is coming in with an injury?
Ruud lost this morning to Novak, though Ruud played a very good first set. Even broke Novak out of the gate. But once Novak took the first, he ran from there.

They have put up the Tues. schedule, and Berrettini is on it. But we shall see?

I thought the same. Same feeling for Hubert.
Saying this not as a Nadal fan, but it would have been Hubie that would have been pushed down if Rafa had played, though, when I looked at the photo of the 8, it was Ruud that I couldn't place at all. To Ruud's credit, he played very well in the first set v. Novak. Then he was done.

Seems like you are right about Berrettini , too heavy. Could be a Juan-like career.
I hope you are wrong about this. Matteo is big, but big doesn't always imply injury. He's outside of the current "sweet-spot" for size, (he's an inch shorter than Medvedev, for example, and nearly 30 lbs. heavier.) But Juan Martin has been snake-bit by injuries. Mainly wrist, for years, and only knee in recent years. It's hard to say how much that is about his size. What they share in common is that they hit the ball really, really hard. There could be something in there.

I agree with you,Safin was also a 'big guy' in terms of build and a great mover for a big tall person, though he wasn't injury bound.Any player can have abdominal problems and can pull a muscle while playing tennis, like what happened to Matteo.I saw your post that his name is down to play on Tuesday, lets see if that happens.
