Do you know what Cali has against Nadal..is it personally or just doesnt like his style of play? The reason I am inquiring, Cali arguments against Rafa are getting weaker or weaker the closer Nadal gets to #20.
Cali is a mystery, and we should just ask him. Though we have, and answers vary. He's always hated Rafa, despite claiming (recently) it's the fans that put him off. I think it's style of play. While Fed fans like to say that, we know that the Rosetta Stone on that is really that Rafa is the only one that did Roger in during his prime years. Cali has a Platonic Ideal about Talent in tennis, and it is David Nalbandian. Somehow, Rafa's style seems to insult this ideal. I don't know that this is the "reason you're inquiring," but Cali's arguments against Nadal have gotten weaker and weaker over the years, which is basically because he absolutely refuses to acknowledge that Rafa is talented as a tennis player. Even Fed fans, some of whom hate him with a white hotness, will acknowledge his talent. Not Cali, and this is where his argument gets thinner and thinner, the more Nadal accumulates big titles. So he keeps reinventing scenarios whereby Rafa wouldn't/shouldn't have won what he did. It's rather a unique posture, but that's Cali!

As a Fed fan, I can say that Nadal has talent.

Thanks atttomole..by the way what’s the meaning of that word..

now back to your post..just Rafa Is ridiculously talented..is he as talented with a racket as Federer. .?..No However he is in the same tier as Roger is..whereas Roger has perfect technique, skill and touch. Rafa’s hand and eye coordination is at such a high level which has allowed him to improved his skill so well that may be as clever around the net as Roger is. Can Rafa hit the ball as pure as Novak? No but his defense is just as good and again in the same tier as Novak. Novak’s serves are better than Rafa but Rafa has a superior hands at the net and overhead smash is at the top of the tour. Novak’s net game is average and his overhead is at the college level. Remember all of these points plus one glaring part of Nadal’s game that always never is appreciated. Rafa is a natural Righty, as Lord Kieran states, “ he is winning and making all these accomplishments with his bad hand(Left).

"Undeserved?" More players should have the brass balls not to go away. I described above why it was a complicated 3rd set. Probably above your head and inclination to subtlety.

So basically Nadal can fight very hard to win his match, and then Medvedev can just decide to tank his match against Zverev and therefore eliminate Nadal? This whole tournament and format is a mess?

Oh, get over yourself. No one is going to tank. They are individuals, they play for points and money and pride. As I said, I give Medvedev better than even odds, tbh, to win the match.

Well Medvedev is mentally and physically exhausted from his season and is now already eliminated, but yeah he will fight as hard as he can and die on the court in order to win I'm sure. lol

He came out of the summer as the next big thing. Recently his star has fallen. He wants to prove himself and especially to the guys in his age group, I'm guessing, that he is a force. Losing badly here was surely not part of his plan. I'm just saying, based on what I saw today, that he's more motivated than Alex to win the next match.

I disagree because Alex still has a chance to quality and he has tons of points to defend. Much more is on the line for him.

It's a fair argument, if he didn't look like Thomas the Tank Engine today. It's not what he wants to do, it's what he can, and he keeps proving over and over that he has an emotional ceiling, and when he hits it, he's done. Last year's YEC final was more anomaly than proof of his grit.

Manipulation can still go on if a player checks results of winning or losing a match! I know the ATP thought they fixed the problem created with the open and egregious tactic of Lendl! He dropped a meaningless RR match to Connors to avoid playing Borg in the SF's of the YEC MASTERS back in '81! It was genius and Connors shook his fist at Lendl's less than competitive play! Giving pts. and $$ won't always do it! This is a rare occasion where every point counts! :nono:  :ptennis:

as long Federer beats Djokovic nadal can ride into the sunset I might even start to like Federer so for one day Federer my boy and of course nadal going to win has last match.
Liking Roger is the easiest part but being allied with his fans on this board may not be so easy for you especially if you discover that they may not be so bad..it's like having your in laws over every holiday and they also attending your family vacation .a bit too much , huh. hahaha
