Thanks. Basically Nadal and Medvedev both need to win their matches for Nadal to qualify for the semis. So tomorrow I’m rooting for Federer to end the no.1 race and after tomorrow I’m rooting for Medvedev to keep Rafa in the tournament. :cuckoo::wacko: Not 2 players that I usually root for.:help:

No, unless you mean Zverev to lose. Medvedev has to beat Zverev for Rafa to stay in. See graphic above.

Well, no one can say it hasn't been dramatic. Big 3 are all 1-1, and the YE#1 still in play. Tomorrow:

Thiem v. Berrettini
Djokovic v. Federer

Thiem may have a bit of a letdown, and saving himself for the SF, and Berrettini will be playing for honor. I don't see the Italian winning, but he'll be pushing hard, with nothing but pride to play for.

Djokovic v. Federer: Predictions?

Thanks I edited my post. That’s even worse cause Medvedev also has a big attitude problem and is not one of my faves.

I heard Annacone say that Rafa hasn’t loss consecutive matches in 3 years..his last 185 matches..that’s sick
I heard that, too. But I don't know what the records are on that. I remember that Roger lost IW F last year to del Potro, then immediately to Kokkinakis in Miami, and folks were asking when was the last time Roger had lost 2 in a row. I'm guessing Novak might have in his wander years, but I'd have to look it up.

I have a feeling that Federer will play this match like his life depended on it, not only because he would qualify for the semis but also because he wants to revenge is Wimbledon loss and also prevent Novak from reaching some of his other records like WTF and weeks at number one. At least this time it’s just a round robin match so maybe he will play freely and won’t choke.

I actually think Zverev has more of an "attitude" problem, in some ways, and I've been trying to be on his side. He was getting his ass kicked today, and he checked out, which I really don't respect. Medvedev is a bit of a "black hat," but he's mentally pretty tough, today notwithstanding. I like his progress and am reserving judgement pending further results.

This is one of those matches that means a lot to Fed; staying in the YEC, keeping Nole from holding #1 record over the dead period before AO, keeps him in the running for a 7th title, & keeps Nole from getting a 6th to Tie Fed! There's a lot riding on this one match!

It's illegal because he could get coaching via text. If he did, it didn't work. If he was just distracting himself from the match because he was losing, he's an idiot. I wonder if he'll get fined. He should. Everyone can see that he did it.

I wonder if Rafa will be in the stands or coaching Roger tonight like he did at the Lavers Cup.

They both have a lot to play for. Roger hasn't looked especially commanding, though I saw only a little of his match today. But Novak has more reason to be tight. I have no idea what will happen, but I'll be shocked if it doesn't go 3.

I'm watching the Nadal comeback, "just because". Of course Medvedev choked. But Nadal also won with commitment, experience, and getting his level back up to where it was in the 2nd set, with Medvedev making tons of UFEs. But if Nadal hadn't come out of the gate in the 3rd with so many UFEs, he wouldn't have had to work so hard to get it back in the 3rd. With his back against it, Nadal cleaned up his act. Surely, Medvedev failed to hold up his end, but there is something to be said for experience, and also enduring the relentlessness of a competitor like Nadal. Cali argued with me that it was in part experience that won Nadal the USO. Surely it was in part experience that won him the match today, on a less-favorable surface.

Oh, and his FH. And he played much better at the end.

Do you know what Cali has against Nadal..is it personally or just doesnt like his style of play? The reason I am inquiring, Cali arguments against Rafa are getting weaker or weaker the closer Nadal gets to #20.
