Went against my better judgment with the Ravens as I like Flacco and (John) Harbaugh. And I picked the Texans because of coach O"Brien. He's a good man.

Dude.. If you recall, I picked the Raiders over the Dolphins last week.. that is going against any type of better judgement:laydownlaughing.. it was pure insanity:snigger

Yes, I saw that and my response was something like - :puzzled  :s :nono

I also was going to pick the Niners over the Eagles last week, but in the end went with the home team.

It was early in the season, the Raiders have a home fan base like there is no other and I thought having an east coast team like the Fins going to the that place on the west coast, it had all the makings of a trap game but the Raiders are just a disaster of an organization.. Ole Al is turning and rollin over in his grave about how pathetic they are...I wont choose them ever again unless they play the Jets:snigger

Ole Al was the architect of the current dysfunction at the Raiders. They've only been competitive for three years in two decades. Mark Davis has actually made a lot of changes for the good at the Raiders - it will just take a while.

Al never did handle free agency well. It's a long time since the 70s and 80s when the Raiders were a great team with a bad boy mystique to match. Al was a pioneer... but he'd totally lost the plot in later on.

This is very true BB, very true.. btw the latest rumor is that the 49ers gm is pretty much done with jimmy H but his wife loves the Bay area and wants him if he is let go to go over to the Raiders. isnt that bizarre

AP do you know any links where I can read more about this (even speculative sites)? It doesn't seem as though the GM is the only one in SF who is done with him. I'm not a fan of Jim Harbaugh either.

I think Oakland will go after Gruden first. He's friendly with Mark Davis, did well with the Raiders first time around and will put some bums back on seats due to his popularity with the fanbase.

If Gruden sincerely wants to coach again then he's never going to get this kind of leverage with any other team - he'll probably get the best pay deal in NFL coaching history, at least 3 seasons to make an impact, a young prospective franchise quarterback (who he rates) and a large say in player personnel.

It's a great package for Gruden and every year he's sitting in the ESPN booth, his stock drops a notch.

If for some reason they don't get it done (I think they will) then I'd be more than happy to see Harbaugh back in town as HC.

I believe Mike Holmgren has been spotted at the Raiders too. I can only assume this may be related to a prospectice GM position (maybe with the advance blessing of Gruden) as Reggie McKenzie is looking more and more like a dead man walking.

What's the background to Harbaugh's big fall from grace with the Niners?

I'd imagine if Gruden was interested in coming back to coach he'd have done it already. I'm sure there have been plenty of calls throughout the years. That said BB does lay out the reasons that Oakland could be a particularly attractive coaching option for Chucky. Wait and see I guess.

I don't think Gruden is coming back either. Coaching takes on a whole different level of responsibility. I'm not familiar w/ his home life, but he may not be in a position to do all the traveling and time commitment another coaching gig would require.

He would if he gets keys to the Ferrari, the 49ers but not Oakland, they are a mess

Probably the worst game of Kaepernick's career so far. And Cutler had one of his "good Jay" days. Tough day for the big boys of the NFC West and they don't have many of 'em.

I dont think Kaepernick is getting better.. I actually feel that he is regressing.. I think that the 49ers coaching staff especially Greg Norman has the offensive football IQ of Elmer Fudd. I think that the Jim H has the keys to the Ferrari but drives it like he has a Ford escort. I thnk that Crabtree is overrated and can not may "the catch or play when needed". To have a drive of 7-9 minutes and to barely come up with a field goal is unacceptable. This team is not poised, not focused and are not going to win a SuperBowl because this team doesnt have the uttermost confidence in this overrated Coach. Darth Fed.. I would take Mike McCarthy any day over this arrogrant jackass

I'd trade you that in a heartbeat. SF has had GB's number and has been the all around better team since Harbaugh got there in 2011 and all this despite Rodgers as the Packers QB.

The season is young but it was clear to see in the 2nd half that the 49ers defense could have serious problems the first half of the season. I do agree about Kaepernick, he has always been a fairly streaky passer yet he usually avoids the total duds like tonight. And it came against a very poor Bears D.

It wasnt the 49ers defense but the same ole thing as the past 3 years, the 49ers absolutely STINKS in the red zone. This goes back to the SuperBowl when they had 1st and goal at the 5 yd line and couldnt score..

reference this link
http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/red-zone-scoring-pct

This is a coaching issue..The 49ers have a very good defense regardless if Smith and Bowman are not there.. I would take Patrick Willis to any bar fight and will walk out victorious.. He is a pure stud and as long as he is back there, the opposition has to be concerned but you cannot have the defense on the field as often as they are when the 49ers cant make a half a yard for a first down. Look at this sequence.. Frank gore rushes for 7, Frank gore ruses for 2 and a half.. then they give the ball to the full back and he gets stop inches short.. Do you feel me now.. Its the offense,, they have been stinking for years.. yeah they played a great 2nd half of the SB when the "lights came back on" or in a few playoff games but it cost them last year in Seattle..

BTW.. I thought you would change your SD vs Seattle pick.. you was leaning but would pull the trigger;)

I think others feel as I do about the Niners problems in the red zone.

Almost forgot to start up the week 6 picks. I will tally the week 5 scores later:

Colts @ Texans (Thursday) - Will this be the first good Thursday night game?? I think it will be and I think Colts take it but really tough to call.

Jags @ Titans - If ever there is a time for Jacksonville to win a game it'd be vs. a team that blew a 25 point lead at home to the Browns. But I will still pick Titans :)

Ravens @ Bucs - Ravens
Broncos @ Jets - Broncos
Lions @ Vikings - No Megatron, no Detroit offense and Bridgewater will be back. Minny wins this.
Pats @ Bills - We will see if New England truly turned it around, my guess is they did. New England wins

Panthers @ Bengals - Bengals
Steelers @ Browns - Cleveland
Packers @ Dolphins - Road game against a decent team should be a good test. I think GB will take it, they need these next 2 games before playing a Sunday night @ New Orleans. Going in 5-2 makes it a game they can afford to lose...

Chargers @ Raiders - San Diego
Bears @ Falcons - Atlanta
Cowboys @ Seahawks - Seahawks
Redskins @ Cards - Cards
Giants @ Eagles - Philly always seems to beat the Giants even if New York is playing better right now. Going with Philly.

49ers @ Rams - 49er's

Thanks AP, I edited it. Going against my boys and picking the Bears...interesting. Is Chicago considered your 2nd favorite team?
