Get well soon Rafa! :smooch:

With Nadal withdrawing, either Djokovic or Federer will now vulture the title.

Nadals' days are numbered.
2019 will be another 2015 type year for him and he will retire from the sport in the following year getting married and starting a family in the next decade.
Good for the sport and for his longtime girlfriend as well.

Nothing has changed as they were always the favourites to win it anyway. If he doesn't choke I'd give Cilic a shot there too.

This was Khachanov's third title of the year, but fourth of his career. He won Chengdu in 2016.

Here's how good Nadal has been on clay: According to Ultimate Tennis Statistics, he has as many clay "GOAT points" as the next two greatest clay courters combined.

1. Nadal 351
2. Vilas 176
3. Borg 175
4. Lendl 147
5. Djokovic 128
6. Federer 110

That's just nuts - and he's not done yet.

For comparison, here's grass:

1. Federer 179
2. Connors 127
3. Sampras 109
4. Borg 91
5. Newcombe 89
...10. Djokovic 75
...12. Murray 64
...14 Nadal 46

And here's hards:

1. Federer 454
2. Djokovic 392
3. Agassi 252
4. Sampras 228
5. Lendl 202
6. Nadal 200
7. Murray 186

Roger's grass lead is pretty unassailable at this point, but Novak will likely pass him in the hard court category.
Apples and oranges my friend. Imagine if we had a longer grass season between 2004 and 2012. Maybe 2 grass court masters tournaments?

This reimagining of the tennis calendar always seems silly to me. It's not as if Roger is terrible on HCs, esp. indoors. Plus, if there were a longer grass season, you'd have to think that more players would be better on grass. Also, if Roger played a long grass season, he might be more gassed out later in the season, so everything changes. Clay is only a third of the year. Rafa hasn't done what he's done by only winning on clay. Just a lot of sour grapes that he's so much better than everyone else on clay.

Maybe you did not read my post carefully. I was talking about 2004 to 2012, when Roger was still young enough to play the entire year. And you are also imagining that there would be more good grass courters with a longer grass season.

Obviously, some clay or hard court tournaments would have been sacrificed to make way for grass tournaments.

We all know that Rafa is the greatest clay courter and he has won a bit off clay. Nearly a third of his major titles were won on other surfaces.

I did read that. I stand by my point that if you change the calendar, you change everything. I realize that Roger's playing style isn't as taxing, and neither is grass, in theory, but if he'd hoovered up everything in a longer grass season, you don't know what they would have meant for his No.Am.HC Swing/US Opens.

If dull's injuries are genuine, then he's falling apart. Abdomen, knee, ankle. Did I miss any bodypart?

It's a trope of Fed fans to doubt Nadal's injuries. But you seem to doubt them when it suits you. It would suit you all now to think he's not long for the tennis world. It doesn't suit you to think that a career plagued by injury has influenced any of his defeats, over the years. Try to pick what you believe. I think it's traditional to believe the player, but that doesn't stop folks from disbelieving Rafa when he comes up lame. Is he falling apart? He's got a huge will to play, and an inclination to find his way back. I hope most heartily that he disappoints you. Oh, and yes, you missed the wrist and the appendix. :D

You missed another bodypart. His ego. :lulz1:

But dull will turn into Wolverine on clay and will be running like a rabbit. dull's doctor Dr Cotorro should get a noble prize.

I'd better say the tacky's Dr. (do you know his name?) is the one who deserves a noble prize.....

It doesn’t matter because he will still win more French opens then Federer’s total career slams. That’s right, Rafa will be winning the French Open even in his 40s.

Everything happens for a reason so I'm glad that they have funded that problem in his ankle which probably gave him the knee discomfort in the USO because both parts are connected
