2 time Gold Medalist Rafa Nadal has now been confirmed for the Spanish team at the 2024 Olympics by using his PR, alongside Alcaraz, Carreno Busta , Alejandro Davidovich and Granollers.
Nadal will play singles, as well as doubles with Alcaraz ( source Olly@Ollytennis)

In regards to Alcaraz and Rafa playing doubles in Olympics, there has been some talk on social media, Alcaraz dosent have much doubles experience , Marcel Granollers is a doubles specialist. Wouldnt it be better for Rafa to play with doubles specialist Marcel Granollers?
Personally speaking I would pick Rafa to play doubles with Granollers he is currently ranked at No 2 in the world has been as high as No 1 ranked doubles player earlier this year,
Alcaraz to play singles.
Alcaraz and Nadal have had no practice at all as a doubles team, seeing that Wimby is just around the corner, and Rafa is not playing on grass, clay tournaments after Wimby might be too close after Wimby for Alcaraz to participate in, seeing he is the defending champion at Wimbledon

It is confirmed by Rafael Nadal himself: He won’t play Wimbledon to prepare for Summer Olympics. In addition, he will play at Bastad, Sweden to get some Clay matches before going to Olympics.

I was just about to post that, he has been practicing on clay at his academy so I think it is a good idea in preparation for the Olympics, Rafa accepted a wild card,
Rafa has not played there in 19 years, he won the tournament in 2005

Rafa Nadal may not be done quite yet.
The 38 yo Spanish tennis legend is leaving the door open to playing in 2025 - potentially at his beloved Roland Garros and other tournaments.
In an interview with L'Equipe, Nadal said he was enjoying playing again and was uncomfortable with a planed tribute for him at the French Open.
" I feel like I'm finding the pleasure of playing again, having fun.I want to give myself a chance to see if my physique remains at this level or if it is only a temporary moment and that it starts to go wrong again.I give myself time and see how I feel after the Olympic games and then we will see what will happen, what decisions I will make".

I think you can use your imagination? btw her name is Mery :) not Xisca
I had to look this up. Maria Francisca..."cisca" = "Xisca." Not clear about the origin, but it is possible it is a term of endearment that Rafa has used for her and the press ran with.

Well he refers to her as Mery as far as I am aware, Her full name is Maria Francisca Perrello who also goes by Xisca, ( maybe a term of endearment and a nick name as well)) maybe the press ran with it as a term of endearment

It's fair if El Dude missed the memo that she doesn't really go by Xisca. It was still a funny joke. For a little background, I think Xisca could be a Catalan standard nickname for her real name, Maria Francisca. (Mallorcan's speak a form of Catalan. A lot of Catalan nicknames use the X, which otherwise Spanish does not, so much.) But that seems to be a total invention of sportswriters for Rafa's girlfriend/wife. It has since been revealed that Rafa, and everyone else, calls her Mery.

I have read that Alexander Zverev does not like to be called "Sascha," (except by close family,) but good luck changing that on the internet.

Have to say Xisca sounds so much nicer than Mery. Xisca sounds exotic whereas Mery is just Mary. Quite a lot of Marys out there. Mery Xisca as a combo sounds like Merry Xmas.

I guess he wants to be seen as a German so 'cos Sascha is about as Russian as it gets apart from Dima.

Yes, the Mexican's also embrace the X, which turned into in J in formal Spanish, long ago. I think Xisca is a cool name, and Mery is very unSpanish, but Spaniards are embracing non-traditional nicknames. Both Alcaraz and Moyá go with "Charlie."

I forgot to post this news yesterday, Wimbledon action got in the way :)

Rafa has been in his tennis centre in Greece practicing hard, with just over 1 week to go before he returns to the tour in Bastad
