I find the discussion on Rafa's ROS to be an interesting one and I tend to agree with AP. When Rafa has had success off clay he's usually returned and played closer to the baseline and was more aggressive in general.

The idea that your favorite player is ALWAYS playing 100% perfect tactically is fanboy/fan girl stuff. Questioning certain tactics isn't saying "I know better than Rafa, Roger, Nole, etc" it's just debating on an area that could merit improvement.

And with that many posters here may remember me for many years complaining about how terrible Roger's ROS was and that his tactic of just blocking the ball back on every return was stupid, especially against the other elite players who love to engage him in long rallies. In the course of an average year I'd probably post about how garbage Fed's return was a dozen times at least.

And look what's happened this year and what can we conclude? Easy, Roger is no longer blocking the ball back and quite obviously he could've been doing this all along off the return and he SHOULD have been doing it. And this shows he was not playing tactically well off the return for many years and it was holding him back.
