Classic Ralph :clap

yes, lol..and classic loser offal-play bomas turdych when he plays ralph(mctell)..17 defeats in a row to captain vamos.

Well now, I was referring to a rally with that post, where the King of Tennis lassoed his hapless foe into the backhand corner, using his forehand as a rope, before finally administering the coup de grace with a totally unexpected forehand winner... :clap :clap ;)

Tomas must be one of the dumbest players around! How many times does he have to play against Rafa to know not to just "bang shots" with him; not to mention using angles? He got smoked and it shows he doesn't have a brain in his head allowing winner after winner due to bad decisions and trying to take the cover off the ball instead of playing with some kind of smarts! I know that's kinda rare these days; even with the vets! It's all just blast it and hope! :nono :puzzled :please:

Just watched the match. Rafa was sharp and forehand was solid. Backhands are still falling short. The score makes it look like a straight forward win as usual against Bird, and it kinda was, but there were serious turning points: Bird leading 0-30 on Rafa's serve, has an easy shot, makes the wrong choice, Rafa holds, goes on to break...etc. Had Bird broken there, the psychology of the match changes. Seemed like Rafa won every point that mattered, Bird folded when he needed to step up.

Very positive from Rafa though. Some forehands were vintage.

After 3-2 in the opening set (which is pretty early in the match), it was straightforward. Nadal came off a bit shaky and you're right, those were turning points as he may not have had the confidence to go for the shots the way he did had he gotten broken and found himself down 4-2 in the opener.

Nevertheless, and I'm not being a detractor or anything here, I'll wait to see Nadal in a match-up that gives him a bit more trouble. There are a lot of things he can do against Berdych that allow him to settle down and feel confident that he may not otherwise enjoy in a different match-up (including someone like Ferrer). Namely, just slowly taking him out of position with angled CC forehand without going for depth, until feeling confident enough with the margins to go up the line (without going too close to the line too. It's a safe-ish shot, one that's probably not going to be good enough against others).

With that said, as his confidence grew, he started letting rip on the forehand and it was a thing of beauty. I remember making a thread a while ago called "players who look good against certain opponents" or something like that, and one of the first match-ups that I named was Nadal-Berdych. Rafa always looks on fire against him.

Better serving from Rafa too, which is a huge plus.

Ernie hasn't shaved in a few days. Going for a young Grizzly Adams look.

Update from Thiem on his withdraw (and, he won't be in Rome):

Here the promised update. I was just now with my doctor at home. Probably the first guess is food poisoning or a virus, but he is also a blood safety. I must pause the next two or three days on each case. Then I can hopefully workout. To cancel Rome was difficult, but there is not other way. I'm sure fit up nice! Thank you for your extremely many extremely nice messages, the build! :) / / Here is my promised update. I saw my doctor now. Most probably it has been food poisoning or a virus I suffered DEMA. (And still suffer a bit to be honest.) To be on the safe side he does a blood panel as well. I am not allowed to practise for the next two or three days but hope to start my preparation for nice and Paris as soon as possible. Having to pull out of Rome hurt, but there what no alternative. Thank you all for those tons of super nice messages I received DEMA and today!

Well Gulbis gave that set away; AGAIN! I'll never understand players today! They run an opponent from side to side, illicit floating comebacks, then just let them bounce to restart the point! Idiots! Gulbis decided that set; Ferrer just hung on and let errors occur! Yesteryear players would eat these braindead morons up; regardless of their training and fitness! Using your head just isn't high on the priority of these ball-bashers! So ugly to watch! :violins:

Haven't watched any of the tennis at Madrid but they seem to be playing extremely late.

OK. We now have 3 Spaniards in the SF.

There is also a possibility (with a low probability) of a fourth one joining them.

Sure is. Not like it's peak summer brightness here. Pretty ridiculous.

Nishi wants to get to bed. He's been quite steady all year, it's impressive...

He definitely closes it out. F-Lo return of serve isn't good enough to break Nishi
