she did look tired in this match....how many players have winning streaks. This will free her to be relaxed going forward.
congrats to patra!she executed her plan......6-1..what an achievement:lolz:

You're trying too hard. That was a complete beatdown by Kvitova. She finally beat Serena for the first time. Congrats to Petra and Serena will be back no doubt.
:devil..where did i try too hard..:ras:...Kvitova beat a sub par Serena and she knows it..:popcorn..:lolz:

Serena out there getting bossed! :laydownlaughing

And she said she wanted this matchup. Better be ready to bring it if you're going to say stuff like that. :cover

I have no idea why you are covering your face. All she said is she wanted the matchup and she should because she has not played her in a while. You are making it sound like she said she wants the match-up because she's going to go out there and kick her butt. Good grief!!!!

May be the kind of Halep-destroys-you-out-of-the-blue kick Serena needed to refocus. Congrats to Kitova

I think it's pretty plain why I made my comment. You said it yourself, for whatever reason she wanted the matchup. She didn't bring her best today and wasn't ready for Petra's level. End of story. Look, Serena didn't have to say any of that. All she had to say when she was asked about playing Petra was I haven't played her in awhile and it will likely be a tough match. So don't get your panties in a twist because Serena lost. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Is it me seeing things that aren't there or is there a pattern emerging (and not just today), where Serena rolls off the first 3 points, it's 40-0 or 40-15, and then loses the game from there, or has to play a ton of deuce points before she manages to hold?

I've been seeing that. It's a lack of focus and concentration.

All she said is that she wanted the match stop making it sound like she have said the worse thing in tennis history. What is the matter with saying that? She did not have to bring anything she just wanted to play her.

And that's what she said in so many words not just the way you wanted her to say it. Are you kidding me she was going to lose at some point in time and everyone knows that she is not super human. My thing is you made your post sound as though Serena was boasting when she was not. All she said is that she wanted the match-up and you are turning it around and making sounds as though she has said the worse thing in tenns.

It's not about what I wanted her to say. I can only go by the actual words she used and not some mislaid mind-reading.

Well my thoughts too. Another thing no reason to go all the way as soon as Maria lost. She's leading the race- and rankinglist quite comfortably. Me thinks there is a lot of these thoughts going thtough their minds - and it's easier when you haven't a streak to live up to. And one last thing - not so many points to defend next year. Yeah they are strategic those ladies - me thinks:cool:

Exactly!

Interesting with Serena, there is a pattern emerging. Take for example Indian Wells, made semi, withdraw before semi's with an "injury" and plays a more significant tourney for her Miami and puts more effort in that tournament.

She did the same thing last year, withdrew from Madrid before quarterfinal match, played Rome and won.

Like you wrote, possibly strategic, she is after all the oldest top player out there and it doesn't benefit her to play so many matches when her main focus is the slam, and no, she didn't look to upset after that loss.

Well it makes sense that Maria lost. She had an insanely easy draw with a slightly tough opponent in Woz...When she finally faced someone with clay court gravitas she lost. She's not the form she was a year ago at this time.

Wow! Kusnetsova! Where did this come from!? Way to go! Knocked the Screaming Banshee o-u-t! :clap

Yeah well - wasn't Serena very vocal today as well? - I would however never call her names and post condescending comments about her - But hey - It's always easy for some frustrated people to post completely unnecessary hateful comments when anonymous :) - One can wonder how these people are doing in real time - Do they lack love and appreciation?

That said - Sveta did a fabulous match while Masha not so much :( - Well done Sveta!! :clap

And when I'm at it - Wow! Kvitova! - Where did this come from!? - Way to go!- Well done Petra! - A blinding match - The serving was superb!! :clap :clap (see it's that easy to post a respectful comment)

Masha struggled through all the clay court tournaments last year but was able to win anyways - her game at RG from R4 to the Final was gruesome - How she was able to win the trophy in the end anyways is still a puzzle to me

What are you even talking about? She won both Madrid and Stuttgart last year.

She won Stuttgart - Madrid AND the French Open - All I'm saying was that she did it in spite of poor play - Winning the matches in each of the tournaments didn't come easy :) - This year the odds (or tennis Gods ) are against her

I think we can all agree on this. I remember back then we all talked about the constant 3-setters and how it looked like she was in real trouble (especially against Genie and Halep).

Oh I thought you meant she struggled overall... I think any player who won both Madrid and Stuttgart would hardly call that a struggle of a clay season.

I rarely remember Maria having a swing of good results that weren't dotted with 3 setters. I'm surprised her and P3tra aren't better friends.

Looking forward to the final. Love both finalists.

Pova must now be even more disappointed with the loss. When Halep lost early, she probably saw herself making the final where she expected to meet Serena. Playing Petra would not have been too challenging because she has grown accustomed to Petra imploding.

Well at least Serena hasn't lost any points. She will increase her lead over everyone else concerning ranking.
