TBH, it was hard to watch that 3rd set. Garin completely lost it, and Berrettini show what it means to have the experience at the higher tree level. Happy for Mateo, but Garin lost a match that was in his grasp. As to Rafa, oh, well. Madrid is never great for him. I couldn't watch the match, but it sounds like Zverev did what he needed to...had a game plan, and pulled it off. Not that easy. Good for him.
Watch the match, it was more than just do what is needed.
Over a long period of the match Zverev played lights out. Of course Nadal wasn’t near his best. But in best of 3 with this performance, the young German can beat everyone everywhere, IMO.

Someone back in the thread was saying that the SF in the top half would be the real final. You could make that argument, but I'm not sure.
Haha it was me, and I woudnt repeat it again.
Coudnt imagine the clay god will go out this early against Alex.
Dominic or Ruud is my pick now.

Please allow me one question: Why do you always write Theim instead of Thiem? Is there a deeper meaning in writing someone’s name constantly wrong?
Gee I did not know you were the spelling police on this site lol!

I like neither the Austrian or the German
If the German (Sasha) can keep his focus and not be a choker....USO final anyone, after defeating Nadal, these courts suit his serve,as long as he does not get the Yips and DF the match away.I feel he has a better serve than the Austrian.,he can win.

The other match is a revenge match for my Italian Matteo, who lost to Rudd in Rome last year, though this is a different surface than the 'true clay courts in Roma" the high altitude does suit Matteo, who posted 13 aces in his q/final match against Garin.

Agreed. His main issue for a long time now is his serve can go completely AWOL but, if he's serving well, his ground game is usually working that day too and then he's very tough to beat, especially on faster surfaces. Nadal said himself that he's very difficult to play against when his serve is on and that he was returning from 6 metres behind the baseline.

Already Some one-handed DTL BH beauties from Thiem.
Break Sasha, 3:1 lead. Awful service-game from Dominic.
Asked for magnesium-powder for his hands.

Wow Zverev is now serving like yesterday against Rafa. No chance for Thiem.
Average speed of first serve 218kmh!
Plus solid ground game.

Break Zverev. Very low level of Thiem after a good start.

Not over yet, let’s see if he can hold his head together when serving for the match.

Matteo was on top form today. Looks like he's getting back to the kind of tennis that got him to the SFs at USO. And his home town tournament is up next. He should be in good shape for Roland Garros.
