Definitely Thiem could be the Rafa Nadal successor on clay

This isn't a problem, but think of it this way: they don't pick and choose when they call "fault". They call it when it's a fault. I think the umpires should call this sooner, instead of letting it go on until the crucial part of a set. And I say this as a Rafa fan. It's a form of OCD, shaking and scratching and pulling wedgies and making faces at the camera, to get ready to serve. I have no issue with the umpire enforcing the rules, but it's not a good thing that they wait in the long grass like a sniper and decide when to fire their bullets. It's not the first time they choose a juicy moment in the drama to cough out loud and interrupt things...

I love it. Rafa knows he is breaking the rules every time he steps up to the service line, and you blame the ump for when he chooses to enforce it...

I agree that they should enforce from point 1, but given that everybody knows Rafa does this, and he has done absolutely nothing to conform to the rules, I like that they try to make it hurt, haha.

No big deal for Novak, but not an ideal way to start the clay season either.
Nole's first match back on dirt and Vesely didn't allow him to play his way into form. He had to bring his A game and did not. Very similar to his loss to Wawrinka, big guy striking the ball purposefully, going for his shots and not missing much. Nole was way back, playing safe, keeping the ball in play and being forced to scamper about like a little rabbit. Pressure was on him and he was the one making dumb choices in big moments.
It should be a good reminder for him and hopefully will be more of an incentive than if he had won through. Good for me too as I have a busy rest of the week. Cheers Vesely, and well done.

He has a great record against Monfils too, but I think Monfils will advance to face Federer. I think Raonic and Wawrinka will meet in the semis on the bottom half of the bracket, but it could very easily be Murray vs. Nadal too. It's pretty wide open at this point, but I definitely like Federer making it to the finals from the top half of the draw. Tomorrow should be a pretty entertaining day from Monte Carlo!

That is why he is ranked #2 in the singles race this year, behind Novak.
Tomorrow, an eventual win over Murray could help him to hold onto that position.
