If Nadal and Djokovic had met in this tournament, I really think it would be a quick straight sets win by Nadal, judging obviously by what both have shown so far.

Not so sure about your generalization. I thought Fedal were much better at keeping youngsters in their place than Nole. I don't have the stats, but I think Nole is significantly losing more to up and coming players than Fedal (oh, BTW don't compare today's 37 year old Fed with today's Nole).

I thought I said Nole's more vulmerable and has a bigger list of past pigeons that he's lost to in important matches like a major, Olympic, or YEC Final! Obviously Fedal have faired better since they lead him in the major's count!   :ptennis:

We all know that Fedal lead Nole in Major count. But, here I am talking about their ability to stop up and coming youngsters and showing them their place. It is my opinion that Nole is not fairing good in this department.

I'll take Nole's last yr. over Fedal at the moment! Three major wins in a row & a chance for a 2nd Nole-Slam? I think he's doing ok!

Good stats, Moxie. However, there are couple of mistakes: Khachanov is 0-6 against Nadal and 0-1 against Federer. Also, Kyrgios is 3-3 against Nadal and 1-3 against Federer.

Hmmm.. 2nd Masters series in a row with 2 new players right? Things are changing beneath the surface
The plot thickens below the surface. Especially on clay, there hardly any names to be takenn in consideration for big titles, aside Nadal, Djokovic, Thiem or Zverev.
Also Roger or Stan have pedigree on clay, but these days they are not at grid best anymore.
I am now curious if Medvedev will be consistent in his improvement on this surface as well

Do you think that only Nadal can fight back on a set? Lajovic get's the second break back!

From 1-5 now serving at 4-5.

Thanks! I had it written down correctly...just transposed wrong. It was late. Which is why, @GameSetAndMath, I didn't take the time to draw conclusions. I fixed it in the post.

Just came up with a new GOAT measure:

Being able to win the first set from 1-5 on your first masters semi.

Djokovic did that? No
Federer did that? No
Nadal did that? No

Lajovic did that? YES!

On your faces, bitches!

Medvedev is completely pissed off and just hammering the ball now. It is working.

3-0!!! 9 straight games.

Now, seriously, yesterday and today made me change my opinion about Medvedev. On the others match I have seen from him, including an ATP 500 final, he was extremely calm. Yesterday, even though he beat the world #1, he showed sings of nervousness, kicked things around and even addressed one of the line judges, which is something I really don't like. Today he completely lost the plot (ok, he is playing the GOAT :p).

Maybe it is the new territory. Let's see what the future brings.

The run ends after 10 straight games. Lajovic had two BP's to make it to 11, but Medvedev saved them. Back to reality and serving at 4x1.

Here's what I've got for each against this particular group of NextGen:

Novak: 15-9 = 62.5%

Rafa: 26-7 = 78.8%

Roger: 17-8 = 68%

Novak has fared marginally worse than Roger, but clearly worse than Rafa, who has the largest sample size. Novak did lose 2 finals at the end of year to NextGenners, so that has stood out, as in they weren't just random upsets. Roger has lost a final to Zverev (Roger's Cup, 2017.)
