well done Fabio! Deserved for the talent you have. But it won't mean anything if you don't win tomorrow. Go for it!!

Fabio has more pedigree than Dusan on clay, but who knows.
Huge opportunity for either of them

AND ANOTHER WINNER to take it. My goodness. That's one for his grand kids. Win or lose tomorrow. And to be clear. We can all see Fabio losing tomorrow. But it hardly matters. Beating Rafa on clay, in three sets or 5 sets is always huge. Doing it in straights with that barrage of winners and winning.... what 7 games in a row? 8? Nearly bagelled him. Completely brilliant. Fantastic for Fabio today. Pretty confident Coric couldn't have beaten Rafa on clay. So sort of glad Fabio was able to come back.

I think they said after Fognini won the first set that it was the first set Rafa had lost here since 2017 against Edmund. Won it last year without dropping a set I guess. But he lost 2 in a row today. All streaks come to an end. No one is superhuman.

lol! Here we go again. One of the commentators wondering if he was injured. Hantuchova slaps it down and say it's all about Fabio today. And rightly so

But yeah. HUGE opportunity for Lajovic tomorrow. I remember thinking early on in his career that he could be very good. And then thinking a couple years after that I was wrong. That he just didn't have it mentally or whatever it was. I do think he had an injury or so. And I'm not thinking he'll run off and start winning consistently from here on out. The draw just sort of opened up for him. Medvedev having a let down today after the huge Novak win is not surprising at all. This may be all Lajovic gets. Especially now that the element of surprise is gone. But this will get him seeded at the French. So if he can keep up this great clay play he could have a nice run there.

They're doing a replay of his match and his post match on court interview and his English is AMAZING. Like. Perfect. An accent. But no syntax issues. Well. Almost none. Until the last bit. He must have spent a good bit of time in an English speaking country.

Still. Hoping Fognini can get his first (and likely only) masters title tomorrow. It'd be a nice feather in his cap. Probably the biggest title he'll ever win. And it would put him on the brink of the top 10 for the first time in his career. Put him at 12 I think. Barely behind Cilic who is dropping most of his 180 points from last year.

A win for Lajovic would put him in the top 20.

Not only more pedigree, but he is the bet... the better pl.... (hell, that is tough to say), he is the better player (there, I said it). But Lajovic can reach pretty high level as well (just not as frequently as Fognini does), and his advantage is that he's not a completely nutcase like Fognini. He's got a shot and he knows it.

Maybe that recent loss to Kyrgios, where he let Kyrgios play with his mind and at some points even toy with him, fired up some competitive chords in his spirit. After all, he just beat a guy with much more clay pedigree than Fognini (Thiem).

Who would have thought this possible with Nole and Rafa in the tourney? Wow! Are we there yet when the Big 3 aren't guaranteed the event winner? I'll have to catch the replay! FFF was slamming the ball early & talking to himself when I left to run an errand! Shocking!

Exactly. Dusan deserves to be in final after scoring such a wonderful win against Thiem.
Definitely the pressure will be on Fabio.
It will be very interesting.

Wow, just checked the scoreboard.

Scanning through the last few pages I don't see a lot of Rafa fans here.

Looking forward to seeing the replay. I was shocked to see the score when I woke up this morning. Fog and Monfils are on the short list of players I love watching. Nothing against Dusan but I hope Fog wins the title.

After beating Sasha and Rafa, I hope Fabio can keep his motivation and focus intact. He is not young, who knows how many similar opportunities would come his way?

It’s unfortunate Fog is all taped up. If he were fully healthy, a bit of excitement would be injected into this clay season. As it is, I see Nadal making a sweep of 4 titles.

Masters title winners 2017-19: Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Dimitrov, Zverev, Sock, del Potro, Isner, Thiem, Khachanov, Lajovic/Fognini.

That's 11 different players in 21 tournaments.

Compare that to 2011-16: Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Murray, Tsonga, Cilic, Wawrinka, Ferrer...8 players in 54 tournaments.

Slam title winners 2017-19: Nadal, Djokovic, Federer

That's 3 players in 9 tournaments (and split evenly, three each).

From that we can say two things:
1) There is a sea change occuring, but...
2) It has not translated (yet) to Slams.

Hopefully this year.
