Anyone affected by friendships on court is not a true competitor. I don't think that's the case with Roger today. He just went away after the weak TB.

Same as the Nishikori fiasco. Completely fell apart after a strong first set. That was even worse. Up a set and 4-3 on his own serve :nono

Disgraceful

What is?

I'll give you a guess and will be shocked if you don't get it.

That he lost?

The way he lost?

You always used to say that when Federer was #1, he should by definition be beating the players lower than him, or else it's an upset. Well, 3 beat 4 today - no upset.

Not a disgrace though, surely...

Roger blew what has clearly got to be his only chance of ever winning this title.

I guess Monte Carlo is not meant to be for Roger.

All credit to Stan though...In the third set , he got the upper hand in each rally very early in points. And did not over play like he did in the first set. And like I said before, power changes everything. There is a reason he has beaten a lot of top guys:Consistent power. When he plays within himself, he is able to get the upper hand in rallies.

Congrats to Stan for his first Masters 1000 win. Well deserved.

To be fair I don't think Roger played well in the 1st set either. But from 0-15 at 5-5 in the 2nd to the end of the match he really struggled. Winning an MS event, especially his 1st Monte Carlo, would've been a statement.

Most Fed fans thought they knew the script...

The tiebreak and 3rd set was.

Temporary 3 beat temporary 4, we will see how it shakes up by year end...

Also I don't think I've ever defined an upset by ranking only. Surely Nadal beating Roger on clay was never an upset even when it was #2 vs. #1. Given that Roger beat Djoker so impressively yesterday and has a game to give Stan problems I'd say today was an upset. And when you add in the fact Roger won the 1st set...it is pretty poor to lose.

Congratulations Stan. Your first slam and then your first Masters 1000. It's only April and you've had your best year ever!

:clap

Not great no but yeah that's where he should've put his foot down and closed it out but he folded like a cheap tent in that game.

I think you guys are being too harsh. The plain truth is that absent of mental issues Stan is clearly a better a clay courter than Roger at this point. My ranking for clay right now would be Rafa, Nole, Stan, Roger, Ferrer in that order
