I'm pretty sure you're kidding, as I'm not a hater of any stripe. Tell me, though, why the 1-hander is more fun to watch. I'm asking seriously. I thought you guys just thought it was prettier.

Yes I am definitely kidding. I do find the 1-hander to be the prettier shot but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are certainly many players with 2HBH that are great to watch off that wing: Djoker, Murray, Nishikori for starters

(Nadal's notably absent. Heehee.) The reason I said it's becoming obsolete is that Annacone today, in commentary, said that he wouldn't encourage a young player to the 1-hander. And he coached Pete and Roger.

JMDP breaks in second set. One hold away from winning the match.

Roger vs. JMDP :popcorn on Monday.

If Roger can beat JMDP, I think he will at least reach SF here.

This will be the one prediction Tignor gets correct..this court isn't as slow or high bouncing at IW..JMDP will be able to put a lot of pressure on Roger, imo

All Roger has to do is exploit poor Juan's backhand and it's game over on any surface.

It's more fun to watch because with a 1 hander you can get more extreme angles, better spin, more versatility. Ofc it depends on the player too, a player with a 1HBH who has no skills so he can't make use of the advantages of the 1HBH can look very lame and boring too.

JMDP sometimes can "hide " his backhand against the better player however Novak was able to break it down. If Roger serves great and plays aggressively with his forehand he should be able to win the match. JMDP sometimes hits his two handed bh which robs Roger of the opportunity to try to hit thru the Argentinian..

Nadal does not have a great or versatile backhand. For much of his career it has been a neutral shot though I will say he's been hitting it great this season so far. I think that's the primary reason he's playing a lot better this year with an improved serve being a close second.

As for Annacone when they ask coaches that question it assumes that he doesn't know anything about the player. For the average 10 year old it makes sense that coaches overwhelmingly will favor a 2HBH in today's game. But there are still going to be the few players that have a great 1 HBH and I don't think that's going to go away.

I don't understand why it could be more fun to watch playing 1 HBH than 2 HBH because I see great shots and not so great with one hand and also with both. And to say that Nadal never has had a great BH is like to say that Roger never has had a great serve (by the way it's his best shot) .....come on!

What a coincidence that Rafa also played his 500 matches against Kohlsch and today his 1000 :-)2

While I don't necessarily agree with Twisted that Rafa's backhand isn't good, are you really saying it's his best shot?? Really?

Federer's serve might be his best shot now but for most of his career it was his forehand. And are you really saying Nadal's BH is his best shot or that it is somehow comparable to Roger's serve? Pretty ridiculous...

I have said that Rafa's BH is really good as good as Roger's serve which according to you is not his best shot. Can you imagine Roger without a good serve and not just now but before?

I should expand more, I don't think Rafa's backhand is a big weapon by any stretch, but his passing shots are great off that side (and even better off his forehand wing) and he still defends great with his backhand as well. But as far as rallies go it has been a neutral shot for most of his career though it of course has had moments where it is a weapon like at this AO and his USO runs. Add it all up and his backhand is good, it's just not in the same universe as some of the best 2HBH's like Nole and Andy.

That's your point of view but to say that his BH is not good (only he had moments) sounds pretty ridiculous

I'm not following this. You compared Rafa's BH to Roger's serve which is laughable to start out with and then you said Roger's serve is his best shot which I agree with at this point though his forehand was by far his best shot until his late 20's/early 30's. Roger without a good serve now would struggle. Roger without a good serve in his 20's would've still easily been a top 2 player.
