I don't necessarily see Serena as slower. I think for the most part she just isn't using her tennis brain, and I think she is trying to avoid what happened to her last year which was three set hell. In doing so and trying to end points and matches quickly the errors are increasing. She has definitely relaxed in the protecting her serve department.

I agree, she is trying to end points too quickly, especially when she has break points on her opponent's serve. She is just not converting the break points this year.

She just isn't making the smart adjustments. The match against Kerber and Azarenka were winnable matches, but she just kept making the same stupid mistakes rather than click that lightbulb that says hey I might not want to go for broke on this return or I am sucking at net today, so I am going to use that sparingly.

Venus is slower to the ball maybe because she can't move any better w/ age and the illness. It's not that Serena can't, she won't. She isn't getting behind the ball either because of laziness or indifference.

I did mention that Venus is retiring this year, hanging on to play one last Olympics with Serena. Sad to see her losing early like this.

Venus won three titles last year and picked up an injury that is not healing fast..just wonder if Richard is okay because this can affect them mentally...didnt see him or his wife.

I saw Richard and wife at the Venus match. Richard looked the same, just older.

She played really bad as you can see from the stats - normally she would never have lost that match, but when you have a first serve in second set - which she lost - of 33% there is no excuse - 42 UE what is she thinking of!!! - sorry.

42 UFEs isn't much worse than Svitolina's stats but she had 8 more winners. The ratio of winners to errors for Wozniacki though was horrendous.

Problem with Caro is she is into too much off court fun and frolic activities (always on news) and that is taking focus away from her actual tennis.
