Horrible play and footwork by Serena. It was brutal to watch and I'm sure brutal for her to play. When she makes me the small steps with her feet, she hits winners plain and simple.

She is also not converting on break points.

Frozen feet are a sign of nerves. My daughter's coach says when nervous, move feet twice as much as you think you need. If you feel you are taking an excess of tiny steps, to the point of ridiculousness, you are setting up correctly for the shot. The errors are caused by not making the necessary adjustment steps. Serena must be succumbing to symptoms of age. I hope she wins here and gains the confidence to succeed at FO.

I don't necessarily see Serena as slower. I think for the most part she just isn't using her tennis brain, and I think she is trying to avoid what happened to her last year which was three set hell. In doing so and trying to end points and matches quickly the errors are increasing. She has definitely relaxed in the protecting her serve department.
