Doesn't matter man. He beat Nadal at Wimbledon once so he's earned some fans for life.

But after he beat Roger he lost all those fans :snicker

Yeah, 'cos losing 12-10 in the 3rd set at Madrid is clearly as much of a big deal as being blown out of Wimbledon :cover Don't worry, Federer fans have no problem with Nick Kyrgios. I sure don't anyway. He's a breath of fresh air with all the boring politically correct players out there.

I think he is too, actually, but this is the thing that might undo him, because he's also potentially an immense talent. he needs to get this side of things under control. He's not handling the pressure too well, at all...

Bwahahahahhaa.

Oh dear god the irony.

The same person who is outraged when someone calls a bogus medical timeout or takes too much time in between point because "it gets to your opponent" is OK with someone getting to their opponent by doing something far worse, and that's telling them that the person they're with cheated on them.

I hope to god your standards for what is and isn't acceptable is different in real life than it is in tennis.

You Rafa fans are a sensitive bunch lately. I for one do not like Kyrgios regardless of him being one of the many to show Ralph an early door at Wimbledon. Guys like Kyrgios just want attention and unfortunately he is getting a lot of it after last night. The guy isn't even good yet and that's why you might not see as many comments on here as guys from the top 4.

Everyone seems "outraged" with this, not just Rafa fans. As far as me pointing out the double standard, it's pretty suspicious that the first two people to throw a certain player under the bus for the things that don't even come close to this have remained silent on this issue. Pretty odd.

Is it a double standard? Maybe a better question, is it unfair to have a double standard. I think Nick does not hide from this type of crap or present himself as someone who wouldn't do it. When people get upset over Novak's, Rafa's or Roger's occasional antics, it's because they present themselves as perfect, rule-abiding diplomats of the sport (and because they are our players rivals, people still bring up shirt-ripping, etc.), so since Rafa doesn't own his own bs, people get more annoyed by it. This was just a new low for a year of lows for Little Nicky, so while extra obnoxious, it's hardly surprising or out of line with his character generally.

So you're telling me if Rafa went out and said "Yeah, I take too much time because the refs allow me. Not my problem" people here would be Okay with it? Come on, man.

So wait, resident White Knights GSM and Front have nothing to say about what Kyrgios did? Oh, I guess he's a "character" and "refreshing."

But wait till he starts making his opponents wait an extra 8-10 seconds in between points. Then they'll lambast him for being a "piece of $hit."

This is a low blow as well. People do not sit on these boards 24/7. Even 24 hours has not elapsed and you want to assume that I condone Kyrgios's behavior. :cover

This is what happens to people when they cannot win arguments and want to score by a low blow. :cover:snicker

No, I know you don't condone Kyrgios' behavior, as any person wouldn't (well, Front seems to be the exception). You're smart enough to know that was not my point. Don't try to get cute. My point is you're willing to raise hell and argue for pages about a freaking celebration, yet this is somehow less grave. But yeah, I'm sure you were going to link us to all sorts of articles proving Kyrgios is a terrible human being, like you do with Rafa...and randomly call me and Kieran out in an unrelated thread. Sure, buddy.

He didn't say anything about her cheating on him if you cared to do some research. The "incident" in question was from 2013 when she wasn't even with Stan. So Bwahahahahhaa yourself and the medical timeouts are still more of an issue as a result. And regarding the 2 people who remained silent 'cos presumably you're annoyingly referring to myself and GSM...I was at work from 8am-7pm and hadn't logged on here all day. Am I allowed to go to work?

I can't speak for everyone, but it would bother me less, and call out the hypocrisy of the ATP. And it would be Rafa owning up to who he is and what he does, instead of acting like a victim of umpires.

But actually, that's what happens. Rafa takes his time and the umps don't impose the law. I said it a million times: impose the law. But if you don't, then the fellas who should impose the law are at fault for not doing their job. Not the players.

I said it a million times.

But Nick's thing is ungallant, it's rude and disgusting in a social way, not just tennis. This isn't just confined to the lines on a court, it's a social etiquette that's been shattered, it's shameful and it's not the way a man should behave, and as such, it's worse - much worse - than bouncing the ball 72 times between serves, or what Rafa does in taking 3 or 8 seconds longer between points...

I agree. I just don't expect Nick to behave well, so I am not outraged by a 21 year-old idiot acting as such. I am certainly glad he got penalized. I could be wrong, but it appears to be Rafa fans accusing everyone else of thinking Rafa's time wasting is worse than what Nick did, but I haven't seen anyone really making that argument. At the very least, most non-rafa fans aren't. So this whole line of reasoning appears to me to be a straw man...

Just returned from my nightly trek through Dreamland and went through this uplifting thread to start the day. Did I miss something? But what the heck does Nadal have to do with any of this? If I were a Nadal fan, I would be more offended that Kyrgios thinks that he can compare himself to someone who has actually done something with his career.

I was replying to you - you mentioned Rafa. Let's face it it, if Rafa takes a few seconds too long between points a diplomatic incident. But we've had threads galore on this and my position is the one above. With Nick, I don't know. The kid seems unhappy out there most of the time, as if he doesn't enjoy tennis and is playing under duress, and as a consequence, he feels entitled to target anyone and everyone, and the game itself too. I read his "apology" on Facebook, and it's the kind of generic plagiarised apology that Shia LaBoeuf might churn out. Our concerns, as always, are with the people who prolly watched on TV and said, "WTF?"

TK, and the Girl.

Stan, by the way, looked like he was about to cry in the presser. Not cool. He's not the real victim here, and he only emphasises what Mirka called him ages ago...

I hardly brought Rafa into this conversation (I could be wrong, but I think it was you lot ;)). I just responded to the discussion already happening. Of course plenty of people are bothered by Rafa's time wasting and it's been discussed ad nauseum for years, but that is because it has been going on for years. It might be worth noting that Nick already has 4 pages of a thread about him within less than 24 hours, so it's hardly being ignored.

Also there isn't really a counterpoint or much to say about Nick. Nobody is really arguing a contrary position, so there isn't that much to say. Consensus is a quieter process.

"You lot" wasn't me, though, and I disagree that people have a problem with Rafa's time keeping: they have a problem with Rafa keep beating Federer, and they just use the time keeping issue (and lots of other nonsense) to hammer him. He's not the only one with time keeping issues.

I just read Tignor on it, and of course he had to write an article on it, because he has space to fill, but he wrote a beautiful paragraph I think we all agree with:

The common defense of an athlete like Kyrgios is that he “puts fannies in the seats”—love him or hate him, he’s good for the sport because he makes people watch, and makes people money. Up until now, I've tended to defend Kyrgios, while also maintaining that his game is entertaining enough without the antics. And last night the tension that he created with Wawrinka did make me want to watch keep watching. But when it was over, and he had essentially talked and beaten Stan into submission, I didn’t feel good about, or entertained by, what I had seen.

Ha, So you are upset that you and Kieran got outed in an unrelated thread and so you are taking a low blow.

Let me do a fact check on your argument above.

1. I neither raised hell nor wrote pages and pages about a freaking celebration. I posted just one message and you and Kieran took offence to it and trying to argue against it and so I responded. If you guys had let go of a reasonable post, it would not have grown to multiple pages in the first place.
I challenge anybody to go through that thread and they will clearly see that.

2. If you don't want to be outed, it is pretty simple. Stop arguing that black is white. Tignor clearly wrote that Rafa indulged in excessive celebration. You may or may not agree with that. But, both you and Kieran were trying to argue that that is not what Tignor said.

3. You are assuming that I claim that this is less grave. I never claimed that. I don't have to post 100 messages here just to prove that. I don't post messages at your beck and call. I will post messages when I want and what I want.

4. Sure, I surely did not post messages condemning various atrocities going on in the world, in the what is going on in the world thread. There is so much going on with ISIS, AlQuaida, Civil war in Syira, Boko Haram, Nigeria etc. I have not posted any message condemning these things. Hence, I must think all of these are less grave than Rafa celebrating excessively.

Boy, you need to get a life and get real as well. Argues Black is White and then gets upset for getting outed and indulges in low blows. :cover:cover:cover

Woah! I was letting that whole Tignor "overreaction" thing go because it was dragging on (and you tickled my funny bone with your fake "sincerity") but you're wrong there, and you really need to learn how to read an article and understand what you're reading before you decide to hop in and post. Especially when your post is just the usual propaganda. I understand, English isn't your first language, but I'm here to help you, buddy.

Now, this is the second time tonight I'm reading about me being called out on a thread I wasn't active in. Anybody want to show me what you're all talking about? Or are you still droning on about the Tignor article? If so, you seriously need to get over yourself... :cover

GSM especially, but everyone else is included too. This thread is about Kyrgios' comments. Put a sock in anything regarding Nadal.

Any further posts that are off-topic will be deleted.
