It is sad, but on another hand, I thought coming after such an absence and playing right away in 3 consecutive events, was a stretch.
Probably he felt somewhat responsible to go out on all, KL for warming up and in Tokyo and Shanghai as the former winner and runner up respectively.
If he is close to play and feel better, the indoor season is a better choice to pick IMO.

Given that JMDP has almost no chance of making to WTF, there are no big marbles out there.
Basically, JMDP needs to play couple of tournaments this year to reassure himself that he is
up there and competitive. That will give him peace of mind when he prepares for next season.

By no means he should give up on 2014. Doing so will lead to poor performance at
the beginning of next year.

Also, he better do proper scheduling next year and not play the week before AO
or any other slam.

It his technique in his forehand that's killing him; the slapping of the ball! He obviously isn't making adjustments and he continues to develop the same injury again and again! Who's working with this guy? :nono :puzzled :s

This time he had surgery in left hand. The last time I check he was still hitting forehands
with right hand. :puzzled

And Rafa plays left-handed but having trouble with his right wrist! What's your point? :puzzled :nono

Read the bolded part of your original message again. How is it the same injury. Last
time the injury was in right wrist and this time it is on his left wrist. Finally, how can
a bad technique in forehand cause a left wrist injury to a right handed player. :puzzled:snigger:puzzled:snigger:puzzled:snigger:puzzled:snigger:puzzled

Which is why I referenced Nadal! It's not like I care a lot! Del Po never came close to the promise and prognostication of his fans; that he was the next member of the BIG 4! He doesn't even have very many upsets of them and hasn't come close to winning a major since he won the USO in '09! I love the way he plays, that technique in fact was more prominent in my era to get more pace on the ball using antiquated equipment! Players on both tours slapped at the ball; esp. on the rise to get a little more stick on the ball! Nastase, Goolagong, Curren, and others were quite proficient in the technique; esp. on the forehand!

Now, you are going off topic without doing mea culpa.

This surgery is particularly worrying because I think much of what Del Potro lost since his 2009 peak (can't believe that was 5 years ago! I mean seriously, think about that for a moment) is the fact that his backhand is no longer as consistent or as penetrating as a rally shot. His backhand up the line to finish points has also become shaky. This has cost him dearly because it was so essential to his point construction, especially when he used his bullet cross court forehand to open up the other side of the court. As a result, he has to run around his forehand more nowadays, while also having to rely on a backhand slice, which, while decent, is not really suited for the rest of his game.

According to some Argentinian medias, Delpo could undergo another wrist surgery, pain is still there...if it's true, it's a terrible news. No confirmation from Delpo's team for the moment. hope it's false

could you please not poast internet gossip with zero foundation to it, I mean where is the link ? is it for real ?..

i looked into it a few days ago and found one small quote with no back up in Spanish somewhere on the interwebz:s..and since then he has had his birthday on 23rd and yesterday facebook/twitter pics of him in gym using both arms pulling on weights (whatever that's called)..

he seems fine, maybe he isn't..but we don't need anymore del potro injury stories  unless stuff reported can be verified. like a link or name asite where we can see for ourselves..

^ I looked into this, as well. I found a blog in French that mentions it coming from various sources in the Argentine media, but found nothing there, not even gossip. I found this in Spanish from Clarín, which is a reputable Argentine magazine, but it states only that the wrist is bothering him again, that he's practicing lightly, and his mood is up and down, and he's a bit anxious about it. It's clear that he's bowed out of the Asian swing, but nothing about a new surgery.

@isabelle: Please remember to provide a link when you report news, especially when it comes from a questionable source.

Here's the article isabelle read I believe. If you don't speak Italian you can use google translate.

Again, as with the French one, they cite unspecified Argentine sources, which don't come up in searches of google.com.ar. At this point, it's totally in the realm of web gossip.

Yes it's this article that says that Delpo could have another surgery, it has already been translated in all languages of the world...all tennis forums talk about it (menstennisforums.com for ex). Delpo's camp hasn't confirmed yet, hope it's not true but you can't say it's a gossip (unfortunately)
tennisworlditalia.com has already given some true infos, it's NOT a gossip website if not I would have ignored it. Just wait and see if info is confirmed or not, I miss Juan a lot and I worry about the future
