Can't wait to see Juan back but I don't want him to get injured again so he must take all the time he needs this time.

In fairness, Isabelle, I doubt he hadn't thought of that. He won't rush back, I'm sure. He's going to be very welcome though. He's the one guy who we might all genuinely wonder what might have been...

Always saddens me to see his troubles, for the very reason Kieran alludes to above. He definitely makes the sport more interesting when in the mix.

Now that Tsonga has given up the ghost, Del Potro is possibly the biggest chance of being a spoiler nowadays, although Dimitrov and some others may have a different opinion on that in the near future

Would be nice to see him play alright but is it wise? Not so sure. Not exactly match tough for that kind of intensity! Still has another month of recovery time yet though.

Why someone who has been off this long would decide to make their comeback at a best-of-five set tournament is beyond me.

I don't think he will play USO without playing in at least one of the two Masters as a
warm up to see how things go in real life matches.

If he does not play in both Masters, I have a strong feeling that he won't play USO.

However, if he plays in one or both of the Masters, it does not mean he will play USO.
He will play based on how it goes (not results wise, but being able to play at that level wise).

My guess is he will start with doubles in Toronto (and possibly singles also) and
then move up to singles in Cincy and then try USO.

One more thing to consider is that he will not be eligible for Protected Rankings
unless he is out of action for 6 months. To be specific, if he comes back on or
before USO, he won't be eligible for protected rankings (and he is slated to
lose 500 points he got from winning Washington DC).

If he misses USO, the rest of year does not have anything that is important
enough to come back without fully healing. So, in the event he misses USO,
he should come back only after getting healed 100%. He could even sit
out the rest of the year and come back at Doha (not Auckland please)
in 2015.

I think he will skip all North American HC tournaments. I just don't see how he is going to be able to prepare when he just recently started hitting his backhand with 2 hands. It would be insane. I hope he is smart with his decision. Coming back too soon would be detrimental to him, wrist injury is one of the worst injuries to heal for tennis players. I miss the big guy!!

I agree with Billie. I'll gladly be proven wrong but Toronto starts 10 days after that video was posted, I don't think it's entirely realistic to see him play there. It makes the most sense to me for him to come back at a low key tournament like Kuala Lumpur and slowly build up, hopefully playing Shanghai, Basel and Paris to a decent level.

I couldn't find anything in English news, but I read on a Serbian website that JMDP will return to action at Kuala Lumpur. Anybody else read about it?

I found this in La Canchallena, which seems to be the premiere Argentine sports paper. It's in Spanish, but I link to it so you can see photos of him hitting his 2-hander, and working out without the brace. It says just that he'll return for the "Asian Swing," without specifically naming Kuala Lumpur. It also says his real focus will be on 2015, after so many months off.

Thanks Moxie, B92 is a respectable website and they are usually accurate, but I didn't see any posts from official JMDP Facebook page. They usually update and give us the videos and photos about Delpo. I am happy that he is on the verge of coming back. And it is also smart of him to start slowly and build for 2015.

Del Potro has pulled out of Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and Shanghai. He still hopes to return for the European indoor hards. I feel I've seen this movie before. :nono

I hope he is working hard on his footwork and fitness. I have seen too many matches where he lost because he was the guy that ran out of gas. Also, look at Cilic. He is the same height and he has improved both his footwork and fitness. I know everyone is not the same , but one good thing that can come out of this extended break is that Delpo comes back fitter and faster.

Spot on. I think he learned from the first very first lay off where he laid on the couch for a year.

That is too bad, I was looking forward to see him in action again, especially after the
orange became the new black.

Anyway, the only good thing is that he is now out of action for more than six months
and so he is eligible for protected rankings (I don't know whether one has to seek PR
at the beginning itself though) and so if and when he comes back, he can come back
as a top 8 player.

Damn, this guy has just been riddled with terrible luck...

Hopefully the same doesn't happen to Cilic. You know, winning the USO, first major, not M1000s, etc.... :p
