We've moved on to the appendices and footnotes, buddy! :snigger

I don't think Rafa ever complained about appendicitis issue. He has complained
about blisters on the foot though.

^ To that end, I have split off all posts about Nadal 2010 vs. 2013 into another thread, so that this one can remain about JMDP.

Here's the new thread:

http://www.tennisfrontier.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2186

Please use that one to continue discussing Nadal.

Thanks.

nice one tented.

right..the main thing is del potro's is starting low level rehab, further details for interested del potro/tennis fans will (presumably) be in a couple of weeks when he visits his doctor consultant specialist chap again for a check on his progress.

As per the new article in tennis.com, there is no way that JMDP can come back to circuit
before six months.

I am a big fan of JMDP and was holding out hope for him even as late as this January.
Now, I am officially giving up on him. I don't think he will ever become a major force
again, although he will surely get back to top 10 on his comeback (and probably will
take two years to do so).

^ Two years? Not a hope. He's entitled to avail of protected ranking 'cos of the length of time out :)

Protected ranking helps you only if you can get back to original shape and form fast.
Otherwise, protected ranking is not of much use.

But he'll stay in his current ranking so he won't need to get back to top 10 :D He could well drop quite a bit once he starts playing if his form isn't great though.

See post # 55 in this thread. After his surgery in the right wrist, he came back in 2010
and fell very fast to outside 100 and then took the entire 2011 to climb back from outside
100 to inside 10. He made it to inside 10 in early 2012.

He took two years last time. Actually, that part is really understandable. After getting
back into top 10 in early 2012, he had two full years to make noise before the current
surgery happened. He did not do anything great in those two years.

That is why, I am willing to write him off.

It's certainly not out of the question. A lot of the younger guys are getting better and better and the older guys are still holding their own. You could be dead right.

I like Juan, but I'm afraid if it is a question of buying or selling I would sell. As I said in an earlier post he just never seemed like the same player after the right wrist surgery.

I just don't understand his continuing to do this? It's not going to work since he uses his wrist more than any player out there! He may get back to respectability due to his reputation alone, but how long will it last? :nono :puzzled :s

^ This. Come on, Fiero, he hasn't "done" anything, yet. He's talking about it. I don't see why he can't set his sights on No. Am. HC season, and hope he can salvage the year by making one more Slam. It is his left wrist this time. Anyway, I'm sure they'll assess before he gets back to competing, but that's 3 months away…and he's already a month past his surgery.

While I admire his desire to get back so soon, imo coming back in August would be career suicide. Tomic came back way too soon after bilateral hip surgery and ate a double bagel. Bad losses wouldn't be the issue. The main thing is August is way too soon imo and he'd risk very much damaging his wrist badly by returning so soon. I'd aim for the Asian swing and the latest part of it if he wanted to try for some play at the end of the year. It's a surface he's very good at too.

I agree that the most important thing is not to come back too soon, and he has to learn from past mistakes, though I do think this time is a bit different for him, or I hope so. Last time he was so depressed he didn't train, even in cardio or other ways he might have that didn't involve his wrist or his racquet. That's why I don't mind a bit of optimism on his part, as long as he/his doctors/team are wise and realistic when the time comes. I hope he feels the motivation to do whatever he's physically capable of to keep himself fit while he can't actually train full-up.
