While I would've liked to see him at the AO, I think this is a smart decision. No point in playing the AO if the wrist still hurts and he couldn't succeed there. I've always thought it make no sense for him to rush to the AO which has been his worst slam. Better to come back to tour after it, before IW which has been a good tournament for him.

Del Potro had the surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and said on his Facebook page that he did so at the recommendation of his physician.
The surgery was done by Dr. Richard Berger, who operated on Del Potro's same wrist 10 months ago. He also performed surgery on the Argentine's right wrist in 2010, the year after he won the U.S. Open.
Del Potro's management said in a statement that the Argentine would resume training in two weeks. It did not say when he might play again."

I think 2013, but I'm not sure. He's definitely been unlucky, plus I suspect his doc isn't up to much. Is this the same guy who misdiagnosed or ill-advised him the last time, telling him to play through it, when it required surgery? I can't remember the details, and I hope I'm not saying something unfair to the chap, but I remember thinking at the time, sheesh, get a different quack, DP!

^^had a light black tubi-grip style elastic support bandage, like he was wearing a black glove with fingers cut out.
clearly I don't know for sure but I don't see a big absence this time, before when he had the post-op cast removed on feb 4th there was a small cut mark and a bit of swelling.

yes, now the people in argie tennis federation have gone that were dissing him and leaking out sneaky anti-del potro comments to the media, I think he will play dc again.
also he's on the courts again (so claimed)..Miami masters probably too early...umm maybe see tandils grooviest tower on european clay in april then. :exclamation::-/

I really feel sorry for Del boy. Such a fantastic player to watch when he is playing well. That semifinal against Djokovic at Wimbledon two years ago was one of the best matches I've ever seen, both in quality and in terms of the wonderful atmosphere of enjoyment and mutual respect. He has been so unlucky with injuries, it must be so frustrating. I hope, for tennis' sake, that he can be back playing at his best at some point!
