Nobody seems to know when JM returns. Sydney ? AO ? Later ? I can't wait to know but I really hope he can stay injury free more than 3 weeks. His body has become a main issue

I'm new here but if I may - he's planning to play Sydney. At least that's what they're writing in the Argentine press.

Apparently, his goal for the season is to "lose one of the digits" of that "three-digit ranking" he'll have when he returns. But most of all he wants to try and stay healthy.

And as we've met before - hi Isabelle.

Thank you both. :)

I used to run a Nalbandian fansite and I still keep an eye on Argentine tennis.
Something like a habit I can't seem to get rid of, though I have to admit that I'm not really a big Delpo fan.
But I'm curious to see what's going to happen with his comeback.
And what will come out of the battle between him and the Argentine federation.

We have a huge Nalbandian fan here, Calitennis.

The forum owners were also able to get an interview with Nalbandian, he generously answered questions from the members here. Glad to have you!

tandils grooviest tower should play tourney before aussie open, needs some decent tennis before a major after not playing since march, it does not matter if ao is week after..clearly he got zero chance of winning AO and just needs matches.

del potro is defo playing Acapulco hardcourt atp500 tourney after aust open. I confident that he can rise through the atp stiffs in the rank charts quickly.

Thanks, also for the hint. Actually, I had a look at the interview when it was posted.
Getting interviews with him was never easy so kudos to the forum owners.

mr del potro should get some decent rank improving results fairly quickly seeing as his non-serving wrist was operated on. so serve, forehand, etc should be ok, slice backhand ok. the 2hbh is the shot which might not be great to start with.

Welcome,I am a huge Del Potro fan. Please correct me if I am wrong,I read on twitter Del Potro is planning to play Brisbane and Sydney? I understand he is the defending champion at Sydney, though I am a bit mystified to why he would want to play Brisbane as well.

His name isn't on Brisbane's short entry list for the moment but maybe will he have a WC ? The completel entry list should be out in december

That he'll return at Sydney is what the Argentine news sites are reporting, all of them in unison.
So at the moment, that seems to be the official version.
Maybe he thought about playing Brisbane as well, maybe he still does. But if so he hasn't told the press about it.

I agree, Brisbane and Sydney and then the AO would seem like a pretty demanding road for a comeback. Then again, I guess no one could blame him for wanting to play as much as possible after all those months.

No, you can't blame him for wanting to do it, but should he do it? I doubt it. After being away for so long, two back-to-back tournaments, followed by a best-of-five set tournament could simply injure him again. And then what? Another six months wasted?

I hope he plays one warm-up, then goes to Melbourne.

I'm not saying it would be wise to take that demanding road. Only that it would be understandable if he decided to.

And who knows how many matches he'd get, playing back-to-back events. With a bit of bad luck it could still end up just being two or three. And going into the AO without any real match practice doesn't sound like a great idea.
I mean, these things are difficult to plan. But for now, it looks like he'll play only Sydney.

I know you weren't saying it would be wise. Sorry if I gave that impression. I'm just expressing my frustration that he could make the situation worse.

You make an excellent point, however, that he could wind up winning only two matches, for example, between the two tournaments, in which case everything will probably be OK.

This is actually a well known issue. Players can only decide which tournaments they play in
or how many tournaments they play in, but not how many matches they play in.

But, in JMDP's case, the solution is simple. If he can get a wild card into Brisbane he should.
If he goes deep (i.e, SF or better), he should skip Sydney and save himself for AO. On the
other hand, if he gets out at or before QF, he should play in Sydney. It is a simple, practical
and wise solution for JMDP, a player whom I believe has much less results in comparison
to his potential (mainly due to injuries though).
