Is Djokovic a threat to Federer's 17?

That's true, Carol. Rafa got the injury in the warm up before the match started so there was no way he was going to win. He was in pain throughout but chose to finish the match. Even with that he took a set based on sheer will, but if not for the injury I doubt Stan would've won that match. Sometimes matches do have extenuating circumstances and that match qualifies.

I really hate the way different standards are always placed on Rafa, but not the others. If it was any other player people would acknowledge the injury, but Rafa never gets the benefit of the doubt. He was injured and everybody knows that.

Of course everybody knows about it but you know some X ridiculous fans always are trying to deny his injuries but at the same time they affirm that he is pro-injury......they don't know what else to say and we know why.
Since the first time that I saw Rafa playing (he was 16) I felt a serious admiration for him as player and as person, I never was concerned about if he would win more titles than anyone else or he had to be the best player in the world but after he was 18 and started to be a threat for many players and their fanatics also started to be concerned about it trying so hard underrate him, I thought it was so ridiculous to act that way that I felt more and more admiration and wishing all the best for him in all the ways including to overpass to everyone and later to say them.....take it! :banghead: :lulz2:

He has actually said that it had started acting up earlier than the start of the match, but not sure what all that means, and it was maybe tacky to say. Still Stan came out on fire. And we all saw Rafa's back go early in the 2nd, but after the break of serve. I know it's really all speculation as to what would have happened had it not, and not worth a big fight. I've never said Rafa would have won the match otherwise, and I don't mind the opposite speculation, as long it is likewise not convinced that he wouldn't have.

Obviously you just hear whatever you like to hear....:p
In fairness to federberg, I think you might have had to be a Rafa fan to hear that. It was after the match was over, and lots of people don't spend the time watching loads of interviews when it's all done anyway.

It was not necessary to be a Rafa's fan to hear that, he got the injury a few minutes to start the match but he decided to play anyway knowing that he would lose more than win, and it was very obvious watching him playing or maybe you and federberg didn't see the match......

This just proves what we heard and what we remember, and how (un)reliable it is. I thought I remembered that he was having back issues before the day-of. Do you have a link to a comment?

So he says he went in injured. I don't think it was the best choice to disclose that. Everyone watching that match saw Rafa's back hitch up early in the 2nd set. Because, saying he was already injured, it would put in doubt what Stan was doing, even before the obvious injury? I don't think he did need to offer that up, and I thought it was inelegant, at best. I'm sure he knows that he gets criticized for injury excuses. He could have avoided further derision by letting it be what was visible to all and leaving it at that.

That loss did hurt him a lot because he was playing very well during the whole tournament until he got the injury, he needed to take a medical help but even that he decided to play instead to say: " sorry but I can't play anymore because I have a back injured" like many players do, do you think that's more suitable?

No, I actually think he behaved completely honorably, and I'm proud of him. That loss did hurt. It seemed a winnable match. And it would have been for the double Career Slam. He did play a great tournament, and at least we would have liked to see the real outcome, if both were healthy. Commentators began to speculate if Rafa would withdraw, but I knew he never would. It was a final, and he'd play it on one leg, if he had to. He's done that before.

That loss did hurt so much that since then his game/mind started to work like a roller coaster, when he came back to play on clay ( in S.America) he played awful losing against anyone, later he won RG but finishing the year badly. 2015 wasn't much better losing on HC and clay several times and also RG. 2016 he seemed to recovery part of his game and confidence until he got the wrist injury.
And that's the reason why I'd love he would win the next AO more than anything else, I'm sure that it would be a release for him

And, apparently the back was an issue for much of the year. I agree, I'd love him to win one more AO. At this point, I'd love him to win one more Major. I'm confident he has the fire in the belly.

It's so ridiculous. And like you I was impressed before he ever won a significant title. I've never cared who has the most titles, etc., because I choose my players based on their character, not on titles and accolades.

It was all over Google (and still is). Even the news media acknowledged that Nadal was injured.

I saw it immediately, but then I'm a fan and I notice such things. I don't see how anybody didn't see it. Mind-boggling. It was in the warm up.

That's exactly what happened and it has nothing to do with being a fan. If a player gets injured, they get injured. Unless only you, me and all of the journalists are losing our minds. It is well-documented on Google.
