Murray. Ice bath. Oh I get it. Defend the poor Spaniard.
The guy pulls off an Ironman today, and you gratuitously insult him...and yes, imo, because he's a Spaniard. A short google search reveals that your source for this is Nick Kyrgios, not really one in a position to judge the character of others, esp. as he just had a twitter fight with Verdasco...which Kyrgios started. You have a habit of posting your opinions as something that "everyone knows," or "all the players think" or "the majority believes." Just because you like to believe something doesn't make it a "fact," or the opinion of really much of anyone else.

Nice win for Fed. Can't say I like him being out there for 2+ hours often in these clay matches though. His season is all about what happens after clay. Either a good year (wins a major) or a bad one.
I figured you and some of his fans would be unhappy about today, even with the win. I thought it was part of what made him so grumpy today. He seemed to be thinking, "I came to Rome for this? 10am start, and now I'm in a 2nd match, out on Petrangeli with the great unwashed?" I'm kidding, of course. He also got a bandaid on his hand, early on. Blister? Great win, though. Like @don_fabio, I thought Coric had him today, but even with 14 years age difference, the veteran pulled it out in his 2nd match of the day. He'll be happy with his fitness, I'd say.

On court nearly four hours today. I don’t see him getting past either Fognini or Tsitsipas, but I still think it was worth going to Rome, before heading to Paris.[/QUOTE)
deffo worth playing clay..at least 2 qf masters with f.o coming up.

I hope the ATP suspend Nick is was truly disgraceful behavior.
It was disgraceful, but it was also hugely self-sabotaging. I've been trying to be supportive of Kyrgios on his strange and volatile path in tennis, but now I'm getting worried about him. I can't tell from the video what happened, but his inclination to engage with the crowd in anger is pointless. He was 1-1 in the 3rd...plenty of time to win the match, or not...but he seems to erupt out of nowhere. All monies and points from Rome are lost. He's far from home, which by all accounts he hates. He really needs help.

Fining Nick is not going to hurt him in the slightest,I have tried to defend him over the years. He has gone too far this time, throwing a chair, most three year olds usually grow out of 'temper tantrums' Nick has not.He is soo full of himself and has no regard for tennis full stop.He really needs to be suspended,he has to be accountable for his actions this time.

If he was going to practice on the clay up to Paris why not get matches in. He's done that. I was very proud of the effort he put in to win this today. He's proven to himself he's up for the battle.

I totally agree...he's been fined before. Even given threat of suspension. (I don't think he's ever been actually suspended.) But he does seem to believe that he can suck off of the teat of tennis, and still play his own way. Tennis has to decide if it will have him, on his terms. He's talented and entertaining. I'm not sure they'll throw him under the bus.

If you say so! I think he's just dependent on the NG'rs choking away another win; esp. when they have match pts! Fed didn't do much!

While I'm sure you've put me on "ignore," I have to say that Roger, while looking old and disgruntled for much of this match, still pulled it off. I thought Coric must have thought Christmas came early to him today. He's beaten Roger, twice of late, and the old guy had to play an earlier match. And yet...Federer won. It is tiresome that you always blame the undercard for failing to step up to the plate. Coric played hard. He was so close. Turns out, though, he's not Roger Federer.

Perseus clears the Fog. Now he is so close to the title.

All that he needs to do is win against Federer (#3), Nadal (#2) and Djokovic (#1) in succession and then the trophy belongs to him.
Piece of cake. :D

If he does that--which I hope he does, to be honest--then I think he's earned elite status.

I really want to see one of the young guys win a big title not by default, but through beating the big guys. I know it has been done, but not like that Murderer's Row.

I don't think it will happen, though. Even if he beats Roger--and I think he will--Rafa will want his revenge and be hard to beat again.

He's young and can only do so much, but, hey, someone else might take about Rafa and Nole. It's not like they've looked unbeatable. Tsitsipas might just be the last man standing on Sunday. Could happen.

Nick is not that rich. Fines will hurt him, but won't hit his bottom line. I think this is a generally good and valid point. They should change the rules so that for Tennis players who has earned above a threshold amount in their career, all punishments should be in the form of suspension. Many think Venus is a great sportswoman. But, she does not like to give press conferences after certain losses. She simply does not show up for the presser and a fine of about $5,000 will be snapped on her. She just pays off and moves on. Of course, this does not compare in any way to what Nick is doing. But, my point is that it is an intentional disregard for the rules and customs. She is able to get away with it as these fines are pittance for her. That is why all punishments for wealthy players should come in the form of suspension and other types as opposed to small fines.

After that Stan incident, Nick was put on probation for about four months (in addition to fines) and was told that he will be suspended if there is another violation during his probation period. Fortunately for Nick, most of those four months fell during the off season and he managed to contain himself the remainder of that period.
