Man am I glad to see Thiem back at his best. Was definitely pulling for Roger today and I really thought he'd win. But I'm not surprised to see Thiem pull it off. We've seen that when he's healthy he's a force to be reckoned with and after years of working his way into his game and into the tour he's just not scared of Rafa or Fed. Maybe Novak. But not really. Last year's injury plagued season was a bummer. And I'm still a bigger Coric fan. But he's my guy right after Coric, of the younger crop. But of course, Thiem isn't that young anymore. He's right at 25 1/2. Probably rounding into his prime. It's hard to say that I'd be shocked if he doesn't win a slam in the next year or two with Fed, Rafa and Djokovic all still at or near the top of their games (most of the time, in Fed's case), but I do think I'd be a bit surprised. It'll most likely be at RG or the US Open from what we've seen. And maybe he'll need the draw to fall apart a bit. But maybe not. Zverev has more masters titles already. And may still have the better career in the long haul, though I'm hoping Coric and literally anyone else has something to say about that, including Thiem. But IW is the biggest of the masters and I do think it deserves a bit more weight. Though, that's splitting hairs. Zverev has 3. So he's got him there. For now. But I think Thiem will get a slam before Zverev. Of course, it mostly looks like that's up to Djokovic. But, he can't stay young forever. He'll slip here in the next year or so at least once. Maybe twice. Would love to see Novak v Dominic at RG.

Actually, Sasha owes Thiem a huge Thank You note for two of the Masters that he won. It was Thiem who defeated the man to beat in those and then could not follow up on it and lost.

I read back over the last couple of pages. I don't see where you're getting "salt in the wounds." Please read back. The harsher comments are Kskate and Fiero, who have no skin in the game.

I'm sorry if you feel I mischaracterized you. I wasn't pointing at you specifically, just the general tone of the bulk of posts - so yeah, not just Rafa fans. Not a big deal or really worth getting in a tit-for-tat.

Totally agree. Well. On one of the two you're thinking of. Zverev's first, in Rome 2017 Zverev still had to get some quality wins. And of course, has still had to get the wins, mostly against top guys, at all of them. It's just not fair to take that from him because he didn't beat Nadal. Especially at Rome 2017 where he still had to beat Djokovic (even if it was the lost Djokovic). We don't fault Federer for his masters wins over whoever comes through to the final when it's not Nadal, Djokovic or Murray. And we don't fault any of those three either when that happens. Thiem was the draw buster. Zverev still had to make some strong wins for a 20 year old. Thiem doesn't have the height advantage Zverev does, but he wasn't making those wins at that rate at 20. No one has. That's why Zverev is the heir apparent in so many people's minds. We just have to hope they're wrong. Or at least, mostly wrong. I think preventing him from winning any slams is impossible. But if the other guys his age and maybe some young phenoms we haven't heard of yet can keep him from being the winningest guy of the next decade, I'll be ok. (Pulling for CORIC and THIEM and Auger Aliassime at the moment.)

I think you're in for some disappointment with Coric and Thiem, both of whom look like second tier types to me. I'm not saying they won't win a Slam or two, just that I doubt either will be true elites (top 5, regular Slam contenders).

The most promising young players are Zverev, Tsitsipas, Auger-Aliassime, and possibly Shapovalov. Kyrgios on talent, but not mentality. Everyone else looks in a lower category, but the fun thing is that it is still quite unknown at this point, with quite a few noteworthy young talents - much more promising than the previous generation.

Well played D.thiem winning his first masters title, too good for federer who can not handle thiems baseline game these days federer looked his age today. Nadal/djokovic would have beaten thiem in the final;)

And now the bitchin Begins.most likely Darth then his minion Front..thanks Dominic

I didn't watch it and frankly couldn't care less about anything but slams at this point and even then I don't expect any more. I'm not anyone's minion either do us all a favour and stop being a dipshit.

You mentioned yesterday (in the news thread) Fed was so classy which is more than you can say about some of his fans and then you type this nonsense trying to provoke arguments for nothing. Good one. Try reading your own posts for once.

Federer fans say they don't care but they would have loved Federer to have the record Indian Wells titles by himself. Also federer has weakness always in matches, starts acting like a cry baby then things get close, like USO 09, AO 09. AO 11,

not sure why you keep Zverev in that list. Has he made a slam quarter final yet? I mean seriously... at what point does that start to matter? If you're talking winning more Masters then maybe..

I've been praying for this moment for so long! The Next Gen'rs had to do it sooner or later; expected a while back, but 2017 showed they weren't ready yet! They allowed Roger to take 2 majors and Masters while Nole and Andy out, then rounded the # to 20 with 2018 AO! Hope they can keep it up! :yesyes: :p  :ptennis:
Allowed? Man... you talk some shit sometimes..

I like how most of posts after the finish are Rafa fans rubbing salt in wounds. Nice.

Seriously, though, it is hard to be bummed that Thiem won. I didn't think he would beat Roger, although I did predict he'd win a clay Masters this year. I'm glad to see the Masters tour start with a new champion, and a youngish one at that.
I'm not that bothered Thiem won to be honest. He's got a beaut of a single hander so he's tops with me. I'm glad to see him translate his powerful game to hard courts. The way he transitions to the net, he could be a legit all court player to be honest. Kudos to him

class is saying Dominic won the match not all the "bitchin" about Roger's age, the shanks and etc..As for you..you have been given numerous opportunities to post with logic but you choose to write about unsubstantiated PEDs about certain players yet ignore the obvious. You have for years attacked other posters to add in your mind more gravity to another poster's reply to a non Fed poster when that poster has rarely consign the majority of your posts. That's a minon. Btw.. dip booboo that's wasn't necessary.but it's who you are

^mate I don't get you. The moment anyone comes for you, you start complaining but then you like to troll fans of other players immediately after a loss. It's utterly pathetic. Grow a pair. Try to behave like someone like Moxie. She'll front up and support her guy when no one else is around. She'll take a loss like a champion, and is classy enough to give space to fans of a player who's lost. You? You want to get right into it straight away. And the weird thing is that you're weak when confrontation actually happens. Learn your place..

Since Roger sucked at Wimbledon last year, he won't get his usual quota of freebie grass points. Also, both Sasha and Thiem will rack up lot of points during the clay season. So, Roger need to do well in Miami, Madrid and RG to retain a top four spot at Wimby.

They both have a lot of points to defend through RG, especially Zverev with Miami and Rome finals and the Madrid title and RG QF. It does seem Fed will play clay, unwise as it is. So I'd say he has a decent chance for a top 4 seed. The last couple tourneys are baby steps, there clearly is still mental fragility in the tight moments and he isn't winning Wimbledon if that lingers.

Allowed? Man... you talk some shit sometimes..
He obviously meant if the youngsters didn’t allow, or if Novak/Andy were around, Fed wouldn’t have won nothing in 2017......trash talk with no bound, so I just found another fact

Bitches come in groups :D
