Uh, hasn't Nadal won every set he's played? How are you not impressed? Seems to be in good form.

Not the least bit impressed by Nadal but it's a game-by-game process. Interested in seeing him against Raonic.

I totally disagree, Rafa's play was significantly better vs Simon then his previous abysmal play vs DYjr. His serve was better and his forehand and overall movement was better.

Definitely Rafa played pretty well against Simon, much better than the day before and watching Novak-Isner, better than these ones

Just a quick re-cap on the match between Tomic v Kookinakis

I must say all through this tournament so far I have never seen Tomic 'dialed in' like he has been.He really attacked Kokkinakis weaker wing his bhand, also he serve to his bhand,Kokkinakis at times just didnt have an answer. In saying that I was proud of the the Kokkinakis saved many BPs,like he has all tournament. This was the first time he had taken a set off Tomic.Well done Kokkinakis and onwards Tomic.

tomic really didn't want to lose to a fellow aussie though did he. :snicker he'd never hear the end of it, esp during davis cup weekends. imagine the 'banter' if tomic had lost to a still 18yr old countryman.:devil

Now that Tomic has a forehand (noticed that last year in a match against Dimitrov), as opposed to the slice festival we used to see when he came to the scene, I think he is the most talented guy from the younger generation (under 22, I would guess, Dude will correct me if I'm wrong). Bad thing is these guys are scared to death to go to the net. You don't need to go crazy like Federer does these days, but, c'mon, saw bits of yesterday's match and at times I was almost pushing forward the TV...

Uh...he's serving poorly, moving below par, his timing is way off, dropping the ball short, etc.

So no, he's not distracted by the balls, whatever that means. He just hasn't played well. Let's hope that changes against Raonic.

This would also be a good time for my yearly reminder that these guys are so good, they can get away with extremely sub-par play and beat jobbers like Donald Young.

Only because you're comparing the performance against Simon to the garbage that was the Donald Young match.

But he's still way off from where he needs to be. Then again, it is a match-to-match process. He wasn't playing that much better early on in 2013 either, and that turned out pretty well.

Some juniors are not even taught how to volley these days period. Our game has become a baseliner game.I mean even Roger years back didnt always volley? or use the volley as he should, quite frankly it is only when he has hooked up with Edberg he has used the volley more,in saying that at times i think he over uses the volley. If my memory serves me well,Roche wanted him to volley more, when he was coaching him.Tomic even as a junior didnt volley much, his transition game really at times is non existent.

Interesting matches today, Muzz-Feli and Novak-Tomic
I have to give a lot of credit to Feli who at his 33 years old is playing better than ever. He always was a very talented player but a little bit lazy and distracted with other entertainments out of tennis. Very good person and partner, he and Rafa were always the key to win several DC
So today I will cheer for both and hope to see a great and competitive match, Muzz is playing well too
Novak and Tomic? I'd be very surprise if I see Tomic playing still well, he is talented but very inconsistent, his game is like a roller coaster

I see, but this way they'll only beat the likes of Nadal, Djokovic and even Murray when these guys get old and tired. They took the baseline game (not saying they are only that, before someone jumps on my neck) to the near perfect best. These young guys won't beat them in their own territory. They need to take the battle somewhere else.

P.S Maybe Coric could do it, but that remains to be seen anyway.

Yep, I think he is 8-12 matches from being as match tough where he can contend for GS championships, IMO

Question, has someone seen a good match by D.Young? I don't remember to see one maybe because his way to play, so much accelerate and unortodoxo which makes very difficult to his opponent to get a good rhythm

Actually Carol, DYjr has some very interesting matches, reference his indoor match play especially in Memphis vs Kevin Anderson.. that match he played against Rafa was very poor.I think he was nervous against Rafa whom offered him an opportunity to train with him about 7 years ago but he refused. That's would be like me turning down a lap dance from Beyonce, even my wife would say, Dude are you nuts" ,.lol

And this is why I am very happy to see that Raonic has a shot to play Rafa right now. At one point he will score a win at minimum against Rafa, and maybe the time is now.

I don't say that he never ever has had a good match, all players have their day but ones more than others and he doesn't have too many, like I said before he plays too acelerated making many mistakes, he should play with more calm and maybe he would get better results .
Donald should learn from Coric who was training with Rafa last summer and
later getting better results, right now he is probably pulling his hair out lol

The net play is a must addition to almost all players. For example, the player who I watch the most except Nole ;) is Raonic and he has slowly developed into a very confident net player.
And I am ready to bet anything that he would have never been able to get into the top 10, if he was not going to develop his net game.
Yesterday, I saw one of the best matches Milos has ever played and check this out, his net points won stats was 15 of 17.

His shot will have to be a very good serve and that could help him to go more to the net, otherwise he will lose 6-0 times against Nadal

Excellent point Carol.DYjr has hampered his development because he very rarely plays with Calm. He never smiles or engaging with the fans or crowd at the arena. It all seems to be like work for him, he really has hurt himself professional ly and financially,IMO.
