RE: 2013 NBA Playoffs

Pacers were impressive last night. The Heat have their work cut out for them in Miami tomorrow evening. The pressure is very much on them, not on Indiana.

I wonder that too. Last night must be a bit of a black eye for emperor Stern. Twitter can be ruthless and that has to be the worst a ref has been crapped on since its invent. Crawford was already the most famous/notorious ref in the NBA.

LeBron was special tonight. You have to give him credit for stepping up like that.

He gets alot of credit. Without him they are not in the ECF, might not even be in the playoffs as the rest of the team was a liability for large stretches of the season. Anyway, if you heard his pep talk on the bench, it was littered w/ f-bombs. He basically told them to get their hydes in gear because they were not going to lose the game. Then he proceeded to go out in the 3Q and show them just that.

King James was regal last night--very impressive, not only with what he did, but the attitude he brought into the second half. He is the real article.

Even before all that, NBA has always been the league where every call that matters is made "for the good of the league". I have always hated that.

RE: 2013 NBA Playoffs

Game 5 of this year had a similar feel to game 4 of last year. In both games the Pacers were badly outplaying the Heat in the 1st half in a game that would have given them control of the series. And in both games Lebron went nuts in the 2nd half (Wade did to in game 4 last year) and the momentum of the series shifted.

It will be interesting to see if Indy comes out strong or if game 5 took the wind out of their sails. One difference is that Wade looks even worse this year compared to last year where he actually had a few good games in a row against Indy.

Wade looks terrible. Bosh is useless tonight. Lebron again carrying this team w/ no help from his teammates.

T.Mac. retired today. Iverson last week. Iverson is a hall of famer. Does anyone think TMac has a chance for HOF? Personally , he had some great seasons, but have not done enough for the HOF.

I think TMac and Grant Hill will be in the same close zipcode for the HOF, very borderline.. I doubt it

I doubt it as well. They both need a ring to go w/ their other accomplishments. TMac was close w/ the Spurs this year, but we all know how that turned out. Hill spent so much time being injured I don't know how he could qualify for HOF w/o a ring or an MVP season.

No they are not hall of famers. Bball HOF is tough to get into. I remember it taking James Worthy quite a long time to get in.

Less than 3 weeks away! I am excited for the new season. Most of the excitement will come out East as I think the Heat are not going to make it out of there. The Nets will definitely be in the mix and D Rose is back for the Bulls. I think Riley made a big mistake the last couple years by not aggressively pursuing a decent force in the paint (assuming Oden is not a miracle fix). If D-Wade is somewhat revived then Miami has a good chance for 3-peat otherwise I think 1 of the other top 3 teams out East will knock them out this year.

Indy and Chi will have the best opportunity to knock them out. Hell, Indy had their chances last year.

Miami is concerned about Indy and Chicago about as much as a elephant is worried about a fly on it's butt.David Stern allows 3 of the top 5 free agents to broker a deal amongst themselves to play in south beach, he vetos a Chris Paul deal to the Lakers and Oklahoma City and Memphis managements each let one of their top three threats (James harden and Rudy Gay )leave via free agents/ trade for long term cap consideration. Chicago has only one superstar who is slightly below 6-3 and a makeshift team of average at best players who can't consistently score every nite. The Lakers have a poison pill of a young owner who makes decisions based on his dumb ass ego instead of having even cursory knowledge of the game. San Antonio blew their best opportunity when *coach Greg Pov made the dumbest move ever by taking Tim Duncan our of the last minute of game six in the Finals which allowed Ray Allen to become Jesus Shuttersworth again.Nope, it will Miami until LBj gets bored.

Indy has already come close and Chicago is a definite threat with Rose back. New Jersey is also going to be very good. Chances are Miami will have to go through 2 of those teams to get out of the East and it won't be easy, especially if Wade is playing like he did the last 2 years in the playoffs. I do think if Miami gets out of the East they will win the finals again but if they don't then the West team (likely OKC) will probably take it.

I am excited for the new season. First, Rose is back, second, Raps will make the play-offs, third, I am happy they changed the final's format to 2-2-1-1-1. Never liked the 2-3 idea.

I think Indy or Bulls can give Miami a run for their money but the issue is winning 4 out of 7 against the Heat. That is a tough ask.

By the way, anyone ready to write the Spurs off? That is one team that does not go away. Every year I say they are too old, and I eat my words. So , this year, I am saying they are coming out of the West.

I feel the exact same way about the Spurs. Duncan played his best ball in 5 years and the supporting players around him and Parker really stepped up. I'm not making the same mistake again.

Good call on the finals format. It is much better with the 2-2-1-1-1 format. Indy, Bulls and Nets are going to be tough for Miami unless Wade has some kind of a revival. Lebron isn't always going to win a title with minimal help and those teams are built to give the Heat trouble. Raptors are one of many teams vying for the 5-8 seeds in the East. With next year's loaded draft I'm hopeful the Bucks bomb, but chances are they'll get the 7th or 8th and get slaughtered by the Heat or Bulls.

My problem is that I simply can't motivate myself to follow the regular season. I'm usually enthusiastic about the start but then it starts to fade away very fast. It's just way too long and boring, with a huge amount of matches turning into non-events and it becomes tiring if you are not emotionally involved with a team that is fighting for a playoff berth until the very end.

The last time I really spent a lot of time watching the regular season day in day out was back in 2001-2002 when the Sacramento Kings had such a great team around Divac, Webber, Stojakovic, Bibby, Christie etc. I just couldn't get enough of them and spent lots of nights watching crap streams and as you can imagine it's tough for a European to get up at any given night, try explaining that to your wife, ha! Ever since that season I just skip the RS until April. All I have been doing in between for years is just checking boxscores and looking at current standings.

Mamba 25th Best player in NBA

Kobe is playing some of the best basketball of his career. This is truly remarkable. At age 34, Kobe is averaging 27.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and shooting a career high .475 from the field.

Bryant has played all of his 17 seasons with the Lakers, averaging 25 or more points in 12 of those seasons. Even though he averaged 27.3 points last season, ESPN ranked him the 25th best player in the NBA behind names like Joakim Noah and John Wall. Well, naturally, that didn't go over too well with the Mamba.

He suggests that anyone who agrees with ESPN "needs to get drug tested."
