Yay! Congrats, Roger. That was close, but he did his champion-mode tennis at the end. Great game to break, and then comfortably held serve.

so, i saw a comment on a day's recap that Fed didn't sit down at the changeovers in the third?! anyone else notice/confirm that? would seem like a bad back sign, but i didn't notice it tbh (although my stream wasn't too stable, and i sure didn't pay attention at the changeovers)...

I wasn't sure he was going to pull through, to be honest, but I'm glad he did. I suspect playing at night bothered his back, which is why it wasn't a straight-set win, but that's just speculation, of course.

He didn't look comfortable, though, the whole match, but especially in the second and third sets. I'm not sure what the problem is with his back, but I know it has occasionally been a source of frustration for a few years now.

I can't imagine he'll have a problem with Delbonis, nor Fognini or Almagro. He should be holding the trophy on Sunday, which would be great for him in terms of confidence building, and point accumulation.

I don't know, because I was watching broadcast TV in the US, and they always go to commercials during changeovers. I just posted another message, though, in which I agree that something is going on with his back.

Well done to The Fog for defeating Haas.....he seems to have the stick on Haas of late.
Almagro v The Fog.....I will pick the Fog in 3 sets.
Roger in straight sets over Delbonis.

Mayer is a strange dude to play against. Roger struggled at times. His backhand is really solid and he has a killer slice too. He disguises his drop shots beautifully. I think he actually hit a jumping drop shot. I thought, ok, here comes a screamer, but he dropped it. Way cool. Roger is still finding his way with the serve. I liked his backhand though. Still a good win for him.
I like the way Triple F is hitting the ball these days too.

First time I get to see Fed with his new racquet will be the match against Delbonis. Agree about Mayer being strange to play against, Murat. Two handed FHs and BHs, even two handed volleys at the net! Very rare to see and definitely awkward as hell to play against.

Why isn't Fognini a top 20 player? He looks like he could hang with the likes of Simon, Dolgopolov, Monaco, and Nishikori.

My opinion...

1) Serve is average at best. Not many "cheap" points".
2) Lacks confidence. Comes off as cocky/arrogant. But, I think it's a front for his LACK of confidence.
3) Expectations too low because of his lack of confidence. Ditch all the theatrics (because of lack of confidence) and just play.

Just my opinion...

...or maybe he just isn't all that good?

Plus...
...Kevin Anderson, another one of my faves, is doing well in Bogota. However, for whatever reason, I can't create a "Bogota thread". Why is that, and who can either help me out, or do it for me?

I'm not sure what you mean by you can't create a thread. I know you've created one before:

http://www.tennisfrontier.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=305

And you're not blocked from being allowed to.

Go to the main page of the forum:

http://www.tennisfrontier.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=3&page=6

Near the top right you'll see a button called "New Thread" -- it's just like creating a post at that point. Send me a PM if you're still having problems.

(I'm posting this in case others have the same question.)

Very good assessment of the Fog although he is playing very well these days.. Nicky A will have to be on top of his game.. BTW.. Nicky A has such an awesome game to watch.. He has all the strokes.. If I had his backhand I could Rule the Earth:clap

FFF takes the first set 6-4. He's on serve in the second at 4-5.

Saves set point on his own serve, to hold for 5-5

F3 is playing a fantastic tiebreak: 5-0

He wins! Dropped just one point in the tiebreak.

A reminder to the US viewers: you can watch Hamburg online today through ESPN's website:

http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index#sport/tennis/

It's a lot better than hunting down other crappy online streams.

Verdy has been complicating this match.

That's a good way of putting it. This should have been over a long time ago, but Fernando has been so uneven he's still out there.

(Close your eyes, Herios.)

At this point, I'm rooting for Delbonis.

Luckily I had to leave yesterday, in the middle of the second set:). I saw the result, no comment...
