A new racquet alone will not cure all that ails Federer. The most important thing is how badly he wants it at this point. Players now look at him as just an opportunity to beat a huge legend who isn't that good anymore. Federer seems to be out there with the idea that life is still great if he loses that day. Understandable...yet detrimental.

True. These days Fed is too comfortable losing. He is too gracious after defeats (by his standards), smiles after losing and doesnt show that arrogance. Thats not a good sign for him, thats not what he is. I feel good when he looks and talks arrogant, being not too gracious after defeats - that shows he still wants to win.

This is exactly right. That press conference after the Tsonga match was disturbing. I'm all for being a sore loser as long as there are no excuses. No need to talk about how great the other guy was, just focus on how badly you messed up.

And compare it with what he said after losing to Berdych at Wimbledon in 2010 - " I can handle these guys when am 100% fit". Or after that tough loss to Novak at USO in 2011 - "He just got lucky". Getting closer to the end of his career is making him a better human being and sadly for us, a worse player:D

it's hard to call this one. I want to give Fed the edge but Del is not backing down.

Speechless, I just don't think Roger should be this bad yet. 32 in a month means he is ancient for tennis but he was at a very high mountain and still showed he could play well just a year ago. At this point he looks like he doesn't belong in the top 10.

Good win for Del. He held his nerves and was steady in the critical moments. Welcome to your first ATP final.

I'm impressed with the young Argentine, though. He's got some steady nerves, watching yesterday and today.

Delbonis played incredible and has a game that can hurt federer, so give him some credit. Federer is in a slump. I think he will resurge, but it will take a little while.

Really impressed by Delbonis. First time seeing him play and enjoyed it. Great player. His ranking will jump a lot after this week and well deserved. For Fed, those last 3 points were pretty abysmal though. He folded like a cheap tent in that latter half of the TB. New racquet will take some more time to adjust to. Still he was hitting the same number of badly timed errors at inopportune moments with the old one too. First set I'd liked the FHs from Fed at times but he didn't look too sharp out there and needs a lot more practice with that new racquet to stand a chance in the upcoming US hardcourt events.

question: has Fed won against a player ranked outside the top 100 this year?

nah, on a more serious note, too bad, but wonderful for Delbo, who hit some nice shots. the end was quite telling though - new stick or not, Fed still hasn't left shanksville. tbh, i'm also still somewhat concerned with the back. the movement today seemed odd. Delbo hit em pretty flat, but still, Fed seemed to be scrambling for balls that weren't even very wide.

btw, only could come here now because the brilliant german sports tv that had promised "live tv" this afternoon really only tuned in 45 mins ago... showed the conclusion (last point) of the first set, and then jumped in at three all. i'll also leave the forum now, because they're now showing the rerun of the Almagro-F3 match, and i haven't checked any scores. at least i got SOME tennis on tv, i guess.

Folks complained a lot that the new generation is kinda lame and not as talented.

Here it comes, Delbonis, ranked 114, never been higher as 98, breaking through big time in a 500 event. He is 22 years old.
However, I will go with super Fabio for the second title in a row.

He looks way older than 22 though. Maybe he's lying
