Good stuff, Billie. Hopefully he can make a strong comeback. Enjoyed watching him play when he was in the top 10. Basically Djokovic lite.

I hope he can make a good comeback, Front, but it is going to be awfully hard for him, after being away for so long.

At least he has this little doll to keep him happy:

Cute. Definitely will be tough to come back. Imo injuries that affect your movement are the worst of the lot as you feel unsure about moving certain ways in case the pain/problem recurs. Something like shoulder pain is more clear cut as you know you simply can't serve hard or at all till it's completely 100% better but you'll be constantly second guessing yourself with a foot injury. Afraid to run fast or hard and let's face it, you can't play tennis at all without running so it's a tricky one. Plus being on crutches means he's completely lost his fitness. Someone with an injury not leg or foot related can still run and keep their fitness levels in good nick.

Kyrgios "emotionally spent," withdraws from indoor events.

Nadal2005RG: This is exactly the kind of comment that gives you a bad reputation around here.

1) It says nothing.

2) It implies your resentment to Kyrgios because he beat Nadal at Wimbledon.

3) It's mean-spirited. You're making fun of a 19-year-old kid, having the year of his career, thrust into the spotlight, with no empathy to him needing a potential mental-health break.

4) If there is an underlying reason, it could be because he's playing ITPL, and you are the only one that's championing that.

There are plenty of ways for you to make useful contributions to the conversation, but your default seems to resist all of them.

In fairness, why is Kyrgios "struggling with emotions?" He beat Rafa - and before that?

After that?

What's going on that he needs a whole indoor season to rest? Seriously. Pete won the USO at 19. Rafa won the FO. 19 is 19. It's still the same age and it's not like Nick was busting a head gasket up til now... :nono

It might be a wise choice. He's young, and undoubtedly getting some attention in the Aussie press, since he is in the international. It could be a bit overwhelming. The cynic might note that he's playing ITPL, and likely getting some good dosh for it. But he's just at the beginning of managing what is likely a big tennis career, so he'd be poorly served to exhaust himself emotionally. He's surely going to want a good result at the AO, so maybe he likes the break now, do those exhos with the ITPL, and try to peak for the AO. Thinking of it that way, it's not a bad plan. Plus, he stays in So. Asia/Australasia, and doesn't do Europe this fall at all.

I'm not convinced by this. He needs to jack it in now - but he can play the Indian hoax thingummy?

I'm disappointed by this news, he ratcheted himself down a slight bit...

Kieran, it is a whole different kind of game these days. I believe that he has a mental difficulty of meaningfully competing. These young guys have much harder time nowadays than younger guys few years back.

You think he should just keep going for it, while the iron is hot?

I think he shouldn't be showing the effects of things yet. He's 19. He should be ravenous. It's not like he lit up the hard courts...

Well I am not his coach or his mom or have anything to do with him so that I have a say in it, but if he feels that he needs a time-out, I understand it.:)

Absolutely. If he needs it, he should take it. That's the main thing.

But I've adjusted my opinion of him...

I'm a little between the two of you, but leaning to Billie's position. If he needs to keep his "powder dry," (as you like to say, Kieran,) for the Aussie Open, where he'll have a really interesting shot, than maybe that's what he needs to do.

Well, I've always been soft towards them players, it's their life, their career and they can do whatever they want with it.

Plus we already agreed on one thing tonight, so it's ok if we disagree on others. We don't want to push it.:laydownlaughing

Well, if that's what's happening.

But Nick has had what? One big day in the sun, and the rest of it has been in the shade, and he's "emotionally spent?"

Show that to Connors, Borg, Sampras, Federer, Nadal....

We don't know what is going on in his life either, maybe his experience this year was overwhelming for him even though it wasn't for some.

We don't know what's going on in anyone's life. We never knew with Borg, or Mats, aged 17. We don't know with Nick. He should take his rest if he needs it. His mental health is most important...

tented warned me about people like you, and that "You may want to note that you're from Australia. That will give your post a different effect. Kind of a 'laughing with you' not 'laughing at you' difference."

See here in a Australia everybody that I've heard speak about Kyrgios and Barty are laughing at the situation. It is not in any way mean-spirited to say "Aussie Aussie Aussie, withdraw withdraw withdraw" instead of "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oy Oy Oy". Its called a j-o-k-e.

The irony is, 99% of my posts are tennis analysis. I probably joke less than any poster whose ever posted on this forum. I also never speak rudely toward other posters.

If you want to see mean-spirited, just look at the 50 or so posts degrading me for posting positively about Nadal :laydownlaughing
