Neil Harman of The Times, and author of the Wimbledon Annual for ten years, also former head of the International Tennis Writers Association, has been found to have plagiarised a lot of his material. Wimbledon also in hot water for continuing to sell the 2013 annual after these findings:

http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports/2014/07/neil_harman_plagiarism_the_all_england_club_discovered_journalistic_malfeasance.html

I did a thread on this elsewhere, didn't see this. :snigger

^ Saw that on tennis.com yeah. What a scumbag. Seems he's not even going to be sued which is a joke.

I wouldn't call him a "scumbag". What he did was stupid and criminal and most likely a consequence of pressure to meet a deadline, but I'm sure the "victims" of his actions know him well enough to say, "what happened, bro? This isn't like you. You coulda called me anytime."

He's a great journalist and now he's going to be associated with this for a long time. It's more an act of wanton stupidity than anything, because as I say in that thread, there are ways of detecting plagiarism very easily, and it would have been a simple thing for him to use their words and insights legally...

Not so sure he's really a great journalist. For all we know he may have ripped people off 90% of his whole writing career as I doubt he just copied one person but likely tons! They've yet to go through 2004-2010 so it's just unforgivable. One or two articles would've been bad enough but they've found 52 already from the 2013 Wimbledon Annual alone already. He's extremely lucky to have just lost his job and nothing more. He's likely made a fortune ripping people off for years. Not cool.

Well, we'll wait and see. This is the only time allegations have surfaced, and he's fessed up. He's not the first journalist to be caught as a plagiarist, though the example of Johann Hari is one where there was malice involved. But it's true, we don't know if Neil Harman's whole career was a fraud: I give the benefit of the doubt until we get evidence to the contrary...

Interesting...black racket...the Fed model???

Also, weird that the doc would be there...never heard of that.

Lastly, I am assuming Del Po has been hitting forehands, volleys, slices, and serves after the surgery and some physical training?

You would assume/hope so. He posted a video a couple of months back of him hitting forehands and slice backhands with his right hand, which is to be expected, you'd say, given that his injury is of the left wrist. I'm quite hopeful that, as his injury only impedes his driven two-handed backhand, he should be pretty close to his best soon after he returns to the tour, given that his injury should have little or no effect on his serve, forehand or fitness.

Let's hope both our assumptions are correct. I really do miss him in the mix.

RE: General tennis news

This year a new ATP 250 event assigned to Israel was scheduled on the caledar
for the week beginning 15th Seo. As Israel and Palestine refused to agree on a 168 hour truce beginning 15th Sep., ATP decided to cancel the event. No word yet on whether it will be
replaced by a tourney at some other location yet; probably not.

Israel is upset with ATP decision. They say, players are used to bombs from Karlovic,
Isner and Milos and so they should be able to handle the situation.

On a serious note, Argentina also wants the DC tie scheduled to be played in Israel
moved to a neutral location. Most probably ITF will agree with the request. Once that
happens, if Israel is not willing to play it in the neutral location decided by ITF,
Israel will have to forfeit the tie.

Nishikori is questionable for the Open -

The 24-year-old, the first Japanese to break into the top 10 of the men`s singles rankings, received treatment on the big toe of his right foot and would require three weeks to recover, the Kyodo news agency reported on Tuesday.

The injury rules Nishikori out of warm-up tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati with his management company also unable to confirm his participation in the final major of the year starting on Aug. 25 in New York.

RE: General tennis news

(Just a small news item, but about a past favorite whose name you rarely see in the news - wanted to post it in case anyone else was a fan. I always enjoyed watching Paradorn play)

A household name in Thailand and a consistent performer on the global tennis circuit for over a decade, Paradorn Srichaphan will be on hand to dispense invaluable advice to young athletes at Nanjing 2014, a role he is relishing.
Paradorn Srichaphan is the greatest Thai tennis player in history. During his professional career, which lasted from the late 1990s to 2010, the Khon Kaen-born athlete appeared at two Olympic Games, carrying the flag for his country at Athens 2004. In addition, he climbed as high as ninth in the tennis world rankings (in 2003), collected five titles on the ATP circuit, knocked the USA’s Andre Agassi out of Wimbledon in 2002, and spearheaded numerous Davis Cup campaigns, steering Thailand to the play-offs for a place in the World Group on no less than four occasions (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006).

After establishing himself as one of Thailand’s most popular ever sporting figures, Srichaphan announced his retirement in June 2010. In September of that year, a ceremony was organised in the Olympian’s honour at the Thailand Open in Bangkok.

Four years later, the International Tennis Federation chose the former champion to represent the game as an Athlete Role Model at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing (CHN). “He always showed great professionalism and sportsmanship, and took huge pride in playing for Thailand. I know that he will be an outstanding representative of tennis and of his country and continent in Nanjing,” said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti.

Yeah, Srichaphan was a very good player. This match was one of the best I recall seeing him play. Terrible shame about the motorcycle crash which left him with no choice but to retire with two broken hands and a wrist.

Well djokorinka won their first doubles match in Toronto, but if Nole prepares for every match like he did for this one, they won't get far :lolz:

RE: General tennis news

ITF decided not to conduct DC tie in Israel. Israel has three options.

1. Nominate a neutral site in a different country (how about Palestine :snigger)
and incur the hosting costs. Israel would be considered a host of this
tie.

2. Play it in Argentina.

3. Forfeit the tie.

No new injury withdrawals.

All the four semifinalists of Toronto are already in the main draw of Cincy. Hence,
there is no need for special exemption slot. The SE slot is used to give automatic entry
to the highest ranked semifinalist who is not in the main draw of the next tournament.
This is done as they cannot possibly participate in the qualifying tournament that
begins on Saturday in Cincy, without violating the laws of classical physics, as they
would be playing in Toronto on the same day.
