Looks like everything is fine now and it was all Cedric Mourier's fault:

^ That seems to be way over the line for a chair ump to discuss that stuff. I honestly had not heard of Mourier before but is it possible to do a worse job during and after a match?

He is an experienced chair umpire and yes, they can do a lot worse than this.;) I don't know why he wouldn't be able to answer the question? He is not bound by some ATP secrecy policy and he was just being honest.:snigger

He might be experienced but that match Saturday proves he sees the action about as well as Ray Charles :) Even if there is no secrecy policy it should be common sense not to directly mention Roger's wife like that.

Actually, he is not allowed to talk to the press. I wrote the ATP and the ITF about a year ago to try to arrange interviews with umpires for this site, and was told such things are taboo. I don't think this is written down anywhere for the general public to verify, but I can tell you about my own personal experience in this matter.

Stan really comes off looking like a turd here. Federer has had to put up with so much worse when playing Novak and Rafa and others. He only showed his displeasure once, in the famous "shut up" episode with Nole's parents.

Why does Stan look bad? I'm amazed that Mirka actually did intervene. She's a former pro! This is seriously disappointing news. I hope Roger puts a stop to this!

Hey, now that Mirka has been unmasked, perhaps Rafa and Novak have played through worse without complaint?

Yeah, I'll play the Rafa fan victim card:

If Toni had said this, how many threads would Front create about it?

When Rafa got the MMR vaccine as a baby, Front posted a link that showed it should be banned... :popcorn

I agree with this. It's inappropriate to do what she did to any opponent. But Stan is Roger's Davis Cup teammate! What the hell is she thinking?

Wow all these Stan haters here.

I'm pretty sure their friendship is genuine. On the first day of the wtf Stan jokingly referred to fed as 'the boss' referring to the Davis cup. He was also very appreciative of federer and has been on many occasions in the past.

If anything, a fight attests to a friendship. You guys seem as jealous as teenage girls.

Um... jealous of what exactly? I think they have mutual respect. They never struck me as friends and other than playing doubles together occasionally, they seemed more like two compatriots who respect each other and are willing to work together when necessary, just not friends. That's just an observation. Has nothing to do with jealousy.

Being appreciative of someone doesn't necessarily mean you are friends.

Ok, ok, ok. I stand corrected. You do not sound like a jealous teenage girl, you just just sound like a teenage girl enciting your girlfriends with Stan hatred. :sleepy:

They have said many times they are friends and Stan has been grateful to Federer for helping him out at the early stages of his career. And if anything, complaining about the wife of your friend is quite common among friends. ;)

It does seem to me that they are friends. They describe each other as friends. Novak and Roger don't describe themselves as friends although it's clear they have very cordial relations. Same thing with Rafa and Roger. It's not like Novak-Roger or Rafa-Roger hang out outside of tennis. But it wouldn't shock me if Stan and Roger are a bit closer than those relationships. Still.. I can't imagine Stan will be visiting the Federer household anytime soon. Can you imagine how he and Mirka would interact? Frosty...:devil

It would also be a good idea if she did not attend any of their future matches, including Davis Cup. Just sayin' ...

Personally I've no problem with Mirka attending the DC matches as long as she complies.

Umpires are allowed to talk to the press, I am not sure if there is any protocol in obtaining that. Here is one that I read months ago (it doesn't matter that it is in Serbian), it is an interview with Carlos Bernandes. But it is mostly about him personally and tournaments and tennis in general, no big secrets revealed here: http://www.telegraf.rs/sport/923797-ekskluzivno-karlos-bernardes-novakov-vimbldon-je-najbolji-mec-koji-sam-sudio
