Fine, but what about why you really want him to do it? Big prize? He can't take his family.

Forget family. He is not going to a festival. He is going to a sports event.

With all the money he has he can always take his family to every future Olympics just for watching.

Roger has stated he wants to take his family to Tokyo and lets be realistic his chances of winning a Gold Singles medal is very low.,Silver or Bronze

Honestly, if it wasn't for the 2 knee surgeries, it wouldn't take a miracle, just a very good performance. Nadal isn't playing, Murray is a shadow of his former self and let's say a big server took out Djokovic. Even if a big server didn't take out Djokovic, Federer had 2 match points against him in 2019. The hampered movement and lack of match toughness is his problem now more than age. There are a lot of guys who will trouble him now this year because of the bolded part.
Other than that Mrs. Lincoln , how did you enjoy the play?

Sorry, but 2 knee surgeries nearing 40 can’t be separated as if his age isn’t a factor now. The age doesn’t let him recover easily from surgery/injuries, that much should be clear.

Wear and tear is a natural result of playing until the age of 40.

I realize his chances of Singles OG is low. He already has Silver and so another silver or bronze in singles s not a big deal.

However, Roger and Belinda have a good chance (no guarantees) of snatching MD-OG. So, he might as well go there try both singles and mixed. There is no harm. Also, you might recall that at one time before Fed fell in Wimbledon, there was a talk of the dream team of Fed and Hingis playing in mixed doubles which never materialized.

There are other mixed doubles teams that are strong...Sakkari and The Young Greek for one.

But I don't understand why you're pushing for it? For his resume? For Switzerland? I thought Federer fans most especially thought the Olympics was nothing more than pretty decoration in the trophy case.

This is what I’ve heard as well. During an interview at RG, he was asked about Tokyo, and made it sound as if it’s out because of the family issue. He may change his mind, of course. Also, given his main sponsor (UNIQLO) is Japanese, I expect they’re pushing hard behind the scenes to get him to Tokyo.

IMHO, tennis should not even be in Olympics in the first place. Olympics is supposed to be the pinnacle of a sporting event. If achieving an Olympic gold medal in a particular sport is not going to be considered the highest form of achievement in that sport (as is definitely the case with Tennis), then Olympics is better off by not including that sport in its event list. Olympics is basically degrading themselves by including tennis.

Of course, Tennis is not the only such sport. Similar other sports should also not be in Olympics.

I've already lambasted the tennis powers that be who couldn't resist being including in the Olympic Games! It was ok initially as an exhibition where Edberg won as a new pro in '84! It made more sense to me! Now for it to be a GOAL of Fedalovic, I'm a bit nauseated after all their successes! It's just never enough for these guys and it's what turns me off to pro sports in general!

So why are you so keen that Roger should go and play mixed doubles, of all things?

Steve Flink on Roger Federer

On Monday Match Analysis with Gill Gross, the American reporter shared his viewpoints on many subjects.

Most significantly, near the end of the show, he talked about Roger Federer at Wimbledon Championships 2021. Precisely, Gill asked him what result would surprise him coming from the Swiss maestro in London. He replied, “The two that would surprise me would be a second or third round loss or a miraculous run to the title”.

Furthermore, Steve Flink stated that he’d be even more surprised with the latter result. For the same, he pointed out many questions that have no definite answer as yet. “‘Can he get to the 16s, quarters, could he squeeze into the semis, does he really have it to get to the final,” Flink remarked.

Also, he added that he’s having a hard time seeing the seven matches given how little tennis he’s played this year. After the grasscourt Major, Roger Federer is expected to travel to Tokyo to take part in the Olympics, where he has had some success in the past.

Pictures of Federer's Uniqlo outfit for the Games emerged on social media earlier today, and if they're anything to go by, the Swiss maestro will be turning on the style in Tokyo. Roger Federer's outfit for Tokyo comes from the same line as the Swiss' Wimbledon gear.

Federer can have all the deals he wants, there's no guarantee he'll win even one match at either venue! This romanticizing of Fed as he winds down can't go on forever! He's had so little play and was just recently schooled by FAA who served him right off the court at Halle!

I know there was a worry because he didn’t complete the Davis Cup requirement. Do you know how he was able to qualify?

While I have not investigated the details, I don't think any special consideration was shown to Roger. Otherwise, the entry list will put some sort of asterisk next to his name and say that he was treated in a special manner. My feeling is that in view of the pandemic and also the davis cup getting ruined by atp cup, they simply allow anybody to play as long as their national organization does not object. If this were the case, needless to say that Swiss Tennis Federation would not have objected.
